The Simucube 2 wheel base lineup has been around for a good number of years. While the high-end sim racing brand has spent a few years focusing on ActivePedals, in the background their team have been cooking up their next generation wheel base, the Simucube 3.
Not much is known about the Simucube 3 wheel base, but we now have confirmation that it is coming, and it may launch sooner than we think. Here are all the details we know so far, and how to be the first to see the Simucube 3 wheel base.
Well, we don’t know too much about the upcoming Simucube 3, other than that it is coming soon. Simucube has really dominated the premium wheel base market with their fantastic Simucube 2 lineup. The Sport, Pro and now discontinued Ultimate wheel bases are the go-to premium direct drive wheel base if you are shopping for the best money can buy.
It would be a surprise if Simucube, a brand known for premium hardware, transitioned away from this structure. What we’d expect from the Simucube 3 wheel base, is more of the same. The six-year old Simucube 2 Pro wheel base remains one of the best performing direct drive wheels around. Meaning, Simucube must be planning something special if they are looking to replace it.
The only clues we have about the upcoming Simucube 3 wheel base comers from the graphic on the teaser page. Three vertical LED strips are shown, which could indicate that Simucube are jumping on the LED bandwagon, following SIMAGIC, Thrustmaster, Asetek and MOZA, who all have LEDs incorporated into their wheel bases already.

Or, the three vertical lines could simply be a play on the number three, and have nothing to do with the upcoming wheel base. This is what I am hoping, as I’ve reviewed all of the above wheel bases, and the LED integration really doesn’t add much to the overall experience. I would much rather Simucube focus on nailing the force feedback, performance and usability, rather than focusing on LED lighting.
--- Article continues below --- Shop Sim Racing DiscountsGiven Simucube’s tendency for premium sim racing hardware, we’d expect the pricing to be over the £/$1000 mark. Much like the Simucube 2 lineup, they may release several versions of the wheel base, with an entry level sub-20Nm wheel costing under the £/$1000 mark. And that would be great.
However, I fully expect the flagship Simucube 3 to be costing over £/$1000, and packing a punch well over 20Nm.
With all new product releases comes the question of “should I buy the current version, or wait for the new product?” This is a really valid question, as the new wheel base could be much pricier, or not deliver the upgrade we are all expecting.
There is never a bad time to buy the Simucube 2 Pro or Sport wheel base. They are both excellent direct drive wheels, and I’m sure they’ll be supported for years to come. We recently reviewed the Simucube 2 Pro wheel base, which you can watch below, to see whether we would recommend it. Spoiler alert… we would!
Currently, we don’t have any word on the actual release date of the Simucube 3 wheel base. However, the official Simucube website does state the word “soon”. This would lead us to believe an announcement will be made in the coming weeks.
Although not confirmed, we would expect multiple versions of the Simucube 3 wheel base, with similar pricing to the current Simucube 2.
