Project Motor Racing is a relatively realistic racing sim, that is best enjoyed with a racing wheel. One of the first things you should look to do when you start Project Motor Racing for the first time is calibrate and set up your wheel.
Adjusting your wheel settings can lead to a pretty big improvement in how the car feels on track. You’ll also notice stability improvements, and better force feedback compared to how it feels out of the box.
With Fanatec being one of the most popular sim racing brands, I thought I’d put our Fanatec wheels through their paces in Project Motor Racing, and create a guide sharing our recommended force feedback settings for all Fanatec wheels.
All current generation Fanatec wheels and wheel bases are supported in Project Motor Racing. This makes setting up your wheel pretty simple. With your racing wheel connected, the first time you start Project Motor Racing, you’ll be asked to calibrate your wheel. Simply follow the instructions on screen.

Then, once calibrated, you can head into the input device settings to further set up your racing wheel. You may want to adjust your button mapping to assign what each button on your wheel does in game. Then you can change your force feedback settings, following our recommendations below.
The CSL DD and GT DD Pro are Fanatec’s current generation entry-level wheels. They’re both direct drive and come in 5Nm and 8Nm variants. The great news is with Project Motor Racing being a console game, you can use these wheels with the console version of the game.
The CSL DD is compatible with just Xbox consoles and PCs, while the GT DD Pro has compatibility with PlayStation consoles as well. Below are our recommended force feedback settings for these two direct drive wheels.
| Tuning menu setting | CSL DD | GT DD Pro |

| SEN (Sensitivity) | 900° | 900° |

| Force Feedback Smoothing | 10 | 10 |
| Force Feedback Headroom | 100 | 100 |
| Haptic Strength | 50 | 50 |
The ClubSport DD and DD+ are currently Fanatec’s most premium wheel bases. however, with the launch of the Podium DD in 2026, these two bases will fall back into the mid-range category. They make excellent options for racing Project Motor Racing, thanks to the excellent force feedback available from these two wheels.
| Tuning menu setting | ClubSport DD | ClubSport DD+ |
|---|---|---|
| SEN (Sensitivity) | 900° | 900° |
| FFB (Force Feedback) | 90 | 80 |

All four Fanatec racing wheels perform well with Project Motor Racing, and all four are supported in game. With the wheels offering different console compatibility, I’d recommend choosing the wheel that works on your console.
The GT DD Pro is a wheel that was designed for PlayStation, however, it does work on Xbox consoles as well when used with an Xbox-compatible steering wheel.
For this reason, I’d recommend it as an ideal mid-range direct drive racing wheel for most Project Motor Racing players.

| Brand | Fanatec |
| Technology | Direct drive |
| Performance | Up to 8Nm of peak torque |
| Compatibility | PS5 & PC |
| Price | €599 / $799 |
| Where to buy | Buy from Fanatec |
All Fanatec racing wheels are supported in Project Motor Racing across each console platform. Of course, you need to watch for console compatibility with your wheel. For example, the CSL DD only works with Xbox and PC platforms.
