Sim-Lab is known for its premium cockpits, with the P1X Pro being the gold standard of 8020 sim racing rigs for years. Recently, they have been expanding their sim racing lineup with load cell pedals, shifters, handbrakes, and even steering wheels.

Now, Sim-Lab has rounded out their sim racing ecosystem with their first ever wheel base.

At SimRacing Expo 2025, Sim-Lab dropped the big reveal: a new direct-drive wheelbase line called DDX, with two variants, DDX26 and DDX39. These DDX TorqueSync wheel bases are high-end direct drive wheels, designed to offer the best force feedback available.

In this guide, I’ll look at exactly what this new wheel base offers, its price, and when you can buy one.

What Is the DDX TorqueSync?

The DDX TorqueSync is Sim-Lab’s entrance into the high-end direct-drive wheelbase market, and it’s a carefully engineered piece of hardware. There are two versions: the DDX26 with 26 Nm peak torque and the beefier DDX39 with 39 Nm.

For context, that puts the DDX26 right in the ballpark with the Simucube 3 Pro wheel base. While the DDX39 sits at the top of the direct drive wheel base offering as one of the most powerful wheels available.

What makes the DDX different from just raw numbers is the philosophy behind it. Sim-Lab spent considerable effort optimizing every component to work in perfect harmony. The motor architecture, drive electronics, and power delivery aren’t just thrown together—they’re engineered as a system. This approach shows in the real-world performance.


When will the Sim-Lab DDX wheel bases release?

The DDX was revealed at SimRacing Expo 2025. The two wheel bases will be available to pre-order around the 1st December 2025. And Sim-Lab are planning the first deliveries to happen in mid-February 2026.

DDX performance

The DDX TorqueSync delivers what Sim-Lab calls ultra-clean, lifelike force feedback. In practice, this means you’re getting detailed information about tire load, grip changes, and weight transfers transmitted directly to your hands.

The wheelbase uses patented TorqueSync technology that translates game force commands into motor torque with extremely low latency and high precision.

Here’s the impressive bit: it’s running a 100 kHz feedback loop, which is properly responsive. This kind of update rate means the wheelbase catches slides sooner, helps you place the car with accuracy, and generally makes fast driving feel more natural and less twitchy.

You’ll notice steadier inputs, better consistency over a long stint, and a connection to the car that actually mirrors real-world driving dynamics.

The 26 Nm and 39 Nm peak torque figures are legit real numbers too—not marketing nonsense. Sim-Lab rates them as “real peak,” and you can push both versions to their limits without artificial scaling or restrictions.

What’s under the hood matters just as much as what you feel. The DDX features a servo motor with harmonized magnet pairs and distributed-wound stator cores. This architecture virtually eliminates torque ripple, which is one of those things that sounds technical but actually makes everything feel buttery smooth in your hands.

The internal 350V operating voltage is where things get interesting. Compared to typical 48V systems, this gives the motor more voltage headroom and a faster current slew rate. Basically, the motor responds quicker to your inputs, the force feedback feels more intense and alive, and your control at the limit actually improves. When you’re on the edge in a race car, that matters.

The wheelbases pack a 24-bit integrated encoder with a whopping 16.7 million counts per revolution. This resolution gives the control loop extremely accurate position feedback, which means smoother, more precise torque delivery across the entire range. You’re not feeling stepped or jerky movements—everything is fluid.

An open ecosystem with new quick release

Sim-Lab didn’t want to lock you into its own ecosystem with its new wheel bases. The DDX uses USB 3.0 data pass through, meaning it’s compatible with all USB steering wheels. There is also a dedicated 5V 2A power rail to provide power to third-party steering wheels.

The new Xero-Play Quick-Release is at the heart of Sim-Lab’s open ecosystem. It does look a little strange, and borrows a similar method to Fanatec’s QR2, but claims to guarantee a perfect fit and no slip.

The main mechanism is attached to the base and you only buy it once. The wheel-side adapters are simpler and more affordable, which means expanding your wheel collection won’t drain your wallet as quickly. It’s a rock-solid, repeatable lock that gets the job done without making you feel like you’re paying premium prices for basic features.

Mounting freedom

The DDX was built to integrate into any cockpit with ease. All four sides of the housing feature precision slots, giving you complete freedom to secure the wheelbase exactly how your setup demands. This may be the first time we’ve seen top mounting slots on a wheel base that I can think of, but this openness is refreshing.

Whether you’re running side-mounting, front-mounting, or bottom-mounting, the DDX plays nice. This versatility means that no matter how your rig evolves over time, the DDX is ready to fit in.


How much does the Sim-Lab DDX26 and DDX 39 cost?

Sim-Lab has swung hard with their pricing. Of course, with 26 and 39Nm of peak torque, the price is going to be premium, competing with the likes of Simucube and Asetek. However, the 39Nm wheel base in particular isn’t ridiculously priced.

It’s important to note that these prices exclude the Xero-Play Quick-Release, which is sold separately.


How does the Sim-Lab DDX compare to the Simucube 3?

The Simucube 3 lineup was announced in October 2025 with three models: the Sport at 15 Nm (€1,236.41), the Pro at 25 Nm (€1,474.41), and the Ultimate at 35 Nm (€3,188.01), with pre-orders opening immediately and first customer deliveries expected in November 2025.

Simucube has gone all-in on an open ecosystem with their Simucube Link technology and data pass through quick release in a similar manner to Sim-Lab.

The Simucube 3 Pro sits closest to the DDX26 in terms of torque and price, with almost identical performance figures and price around the €1500 mark. The Simucube 3 Pro delivers 25 Nm peak torque with an optimized SPM motor, while the DDX26 pushes 26 Nm.

At the extreme performance end, Sim-Lab edges Simucube with their DDX39 compared to the Simucube 3 Ultimate. The DDX39 offers 39Nm of peak torque, while the Simucube 3 Ultimate offers 35Nm. The price is also better costing €1999 instead of the Simucube’s €3188.

Both wheelbases look to be genuinely incredible, and honestly, the choice comes down to which ecosystem you prefer.

Should you buy the Sim-Lab DDX wheel, and which version is the best one to get?

The Sim-Lab DDX TorqueSync wheelbases arrive at an interesting moment. The market is crowded with genuinely excellent options in the uber-premium wheel base space.

For the DDX26, you’re looking at a wheelbase that matches the Simucube 3 Pro in power while offering similar flexibility through its open ecosystem and user-assignable I/O. For the DDX39, you’re stepping into the same territory as Asetek’s Invicta and the Simucube 3 Ultimate with arguably more responsive feedback thanks to that 350V architecture.

If you are shopping for a premium direct drive wheel base, the DDX TorqueSync is worth serious consideration. If you’ve already bought into Simucube or Fanatec, you’re probably fine where you are. But if you’re building a rig from scratch or looking to upgrade? The DDX deserves to be on your shortlist.

My pick of the two would almost certainly be the DDX26. As in real world sim racing, it is highly unlikely that you’ll ever be running the wheel base up close to 39Nm of peak torque.
