The Simucube ActivePedal is a bit of a game-changer in its approach to how it works. It removes most of the mechanical components that a normal sim racing pedal needs to work, and replaces them all with an internal motor.
This approach lets the Simucube ActivePedal do some extraordinary things beyond what a traditional pedal can do. As well as performing the normal duties of a pedal, the internal motor can also produce force feedback effects which is something we haven’t really seen before in a sim racing pedal. Other brands have played with haptic feedback, but not to the extent at which the ActivePedal does.
Over the past few months, we have spent a fair bit of time with the Simucube ActivePedal, along with the Simucube throttle and baseplate. During that time, we have been able to really test the pedal against other, more traditional pedals.
There is no getting away from the fact that the Simucube ActivePedal does cost a lot of money, a lot more than other sim racing pedals. However, in my review, I break down how the ActivePedal works, and whether it justifies its premium price tag.
You can watch the video review below.
The Simucube ActivePedal is a single sim racing pedal that utilises an internal motor to generate force feedback and replace the traditional mechanical components of a pedal. The motor replaces any spring, elastomers or dampers from a normal pedal, and instead, replicates these sensations via its software.
The pedal can be used on its own as a brake pedal, which is where it really shines. Or you can pair multiple ActivePedals together to create either a two or three pedal configuration. You can use the ActivePedal as a throttle and a clutch and there are specific settings in the Simucube Tuner software to make the pedals feel realistic.
Below is an overview of the pedals that I am using in my review above. I have both the ActivePedal which I use as a brake pedal and the Simucube throttle. I also utilise the baseplate to mount both pedals to.
