What Is The Difference Between Esports & Safe Setups?

For each track in the F1 games, you will find a range of different car setups included in our Pro Setups. These include setups that are tuned for different styles of driving, and different player skill levels.

Below is a breakdown of the difference between each type of F1 Pro setup, along with our recommendations on when to use each setup type.

  • Esports setups
    • Our Esports car setups, or any that are labelled Esports, are designed to be the fastest possible car setup. These are tuned for maximum pace, and can result in them having a tendency to oversteer.
    • Esports setups for races do still consider tyre wear, which is why we have both qualifying and race specific setups.
  • Safe setups
    • Our safe setups are still created to be incredibly quick. These are a big improvement over baseline or free setups.
    • These setups differ from our Esports setups by being easier to drive. Safe setups will prioritise having a stable and consistent car by reducing some tendency to oversteer.
  • Istvan Puki setups
    • We have a large team of setup creators, with some incredibly talented engineers and drivers. Istvan is one of our lead F1 Pro setup creators, and is also one of the fastest Esports drivers in the world. He has won the official F1 Esports Constructors championship with Ferrari, and also driven for the official Mercedes-AMG F1 Esports team.
    • We have separated Istvan’s setups out from our Esports setups as Istvan has a unique way of setting up the car. This results in them feeling different to our other Esports setups. Some drivers may prefer Istvan’s setups, or our Esports setups.
    • We have included them to provide as much choice, variation and value as possible from our F1 Pro setups.
  • Low downforce setups
    • For some circuits, you will find a dedicated low downforce car setup. These are included for higher downforce tracks where a lower downforce approach for some races may be beneficial.
    • These are primarily created for offline races against the AI and career mode.

Which setups should I use?

We would always recommend trying all setups where possible as the different styles will suit some drivers more than others. Below is a rough guideline on when you should be using which setup.

  • Looking for the fastest possible setup: Use our Esports or Istvan Puki setups
  • Prefer a stable race setup: Use our safe car setups
  • Need better tyre wear: Use our safe car setups
  • Getting too much understeer: Use Istvan Puki’s setups
  • Getting too much oversteer: Use our Esports or safe setups
