What Do Our iRacing Setup File Names Mean?

Inside each of our weekly iRacing setup folders are a range of different car setups. These different setups have been created for different race sessions. Below is a breakdown of how to read and understand which setups are designed for which scenario.

Each car setup and file is labelled using an easy to understand naming convention. Below is an explanation of what each setup type means.

• Season
  This is the season that the car setup was created for.
• Car & track name
  These labels indicate the car and track combination.
• Setup type
  The setup type label will show whether the setup is for a qualifying session, race session or a wet setup.
  • Q: Qualifying
  • R: Race
  • E: Endurance
  • Wet: Wet setup
• Version number
  All setups include the version number at the end to show which version of the setup you have.

Different setup types explained

In all of our iRacing setup and datapacks, you’ll find multiple car setups to choose from. These are labelled using the naming convention above, and each setup is specifically created for a different set of session conditions. Below is a breakdown of what each type of setup is created for.

• Q: Qualifying
  Any setup labelled Q or QV is designed specifically for qualifying sessions. These setups are tailored to be slightly more aggressive compared to race setups, and are faster across a single lap.
• R: Race
  Race car setups are tuned to be more consistent to drive, with more of an emphasis on long distance race pace, tyre conservation and in some instances faster straight line speed to aid with overtaking.
• E: Endurance
  Endurance setups are more extreme variants of our race setups. These are tuned even further in the direction of long distance race pace and tyre wear. They’re ideal for longer race stints and should be used for all endurance races.
• Wet: Wet setup
  Ever since the introduction of wet races in iRacing back in 2024, we have been including dedicated wet car setups in all iRacing datapacks where the weather conditions are predicting rain. As our team create all setups based on the current season’s iRacing schedule, wet setups are only included in sessions that have some chance of rain.
