The Azerbaijan Grand Prix takes place on the streets of Baku, and it is a circuit that demands compromises from your car setup at every turn. Low downforce for the long main straight, stability through the narrow castle section, and strong braking performance into the heavy braking zones all pull your setup in different directions.

Corner-by-Corner Breakdown: How to Be Fast at Baku
Sector 1 – Long Straights and Heavy Braking Zones
Turn 1 is a 90 degree left-hander and one of the best overtaking spots on the circuit. Brake late, downshift to second gear, and be careful not to clip the inside kerb too hard or you will lose balance and run wide into the wall.
Turn 2 is similar to Turn 1 but slightly faster. Focus on a clean exit to carry speed onto the short DRS straight that follows.
Turn 3 is a common lockup spot. Brake in a straight line and turn in sharply. Use the kerb sparingly here as the walls leave no margin for error.
Turn 4 is a quick transition corner. Stay tight, carry good speed, and set yourself up correctly for the flowing mid-sector that follows.
Sector 2 – The Castle Section and Technical Corners
Turns 5 and 6 are a quick left-right chicane. Maintain rhythm and flow through here. Getting too aggressive risks wall contact, which at Baku usually ends your race.
Turn 7 is a tight left-hander that acts as the gateway into the castle section. Slow the car down fully and get the entry right.
Turns 8 to 11 make up the castle section, the narrowest part of the entire circuit. Hug the left wall on entry, glide through the complex with minimal steering corrections, and stay smooth. Oversteer anywhere through here is almost always terminal.
Turn 12 is flat-out but demands precision. Do not clip the exit wall.
Turns 13 to 15 are fast sweepers where smoothness pays off. Turn 15 in particular has a tricky camber change that catches drivers out under braking. Lockups are common here so brake progressively.
Sector 3 – Maximum Speed and the Long Run to the Line
Turn 16 is a medium-speed left-hander and the final real corner before the flat-out run to the finish. Carry as much speed as possible and maximise your exit onto the main straight.
Turns 17 to 20 are all flat-out kinks. This is where a low drag setup pays dividends. DRS opens at the exit of Turn 20, so top speed through here is critical for both qualifying and race overtakes.
