F1 24 Baku City Circuit Track Guide

The Baku street circuit in Azerbaijan is one of the most challenging tracks to race on in F1 24. It contains a few highly technical corners, especially turns 5 to 12, which contains the incredibly tight and twisty castle section. The sector, in particular, really tests a driver’s precision behind the wheel, along with testing your car setup and balance.

The rest of the Baku circuit includes a series of 90° corners combined with a few fast left-hand corners towards the end of the lap. There is also one of the longest straights of any track in F1 24. The run from turn 16 through to turn 1 is incredibly long at around 2.2km in length. This means that we need to prioritise this straight with our car setup so we can challenge other cars for overtakes into turn 1.

How to set up an F1 car for the long Baku straight?

The long straight that joins the end of the lap to the first corner must be a big focus of any car setup. Reducing the amount of front and rear wing angle is crucial to ensuring your car can hit a higher top speed and not hit the rev limiter at the end of the straight.

The optimal approach is a low downforce approach with the front and rear wings set to between 10 and 15. This approach gives the car good top speed without sacrificing downforce entirely throughout the rest of the lap.

We still require a good amount of downforce for the 90° corners; otherwise, you can suffer from understeer. I would opt for a slightly higher front wing aero setup to ensure understeer isn’t too much of an issue.

How to not spin the wheels with traction control off around Baku?

There are some very heavy acceleration zones at Baku. The exits of 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 16 all require heavy acceleration and each of these corners can cause you to spin your rear wheels if you accelerate too hard.

To counteract the ease of spinning the rear wheels, we can change our F1 24 Baku car setup to make acceleration easier. Lowering the on-throttle differential a lot will help reduce wheel spin, as does decreasing the rear tyre pressures.

Both of these car setup adjustments will make accelerating from slow speed easier. If you do race F1 24 with traction controlled enabled, you can increase the on-throttle differential to give you better drive out of the faster corners.

Baku car setup top tips

I would recommend using our recommended Baku car setup as a baseline for any adjustments. When you feel comfortable with adjusting your setup in F1 24, you can make the following tweaks to adjust how your car behaves on track around Azerbaijan.

  • Lower the front and rear wing angle to increase top speed.
  • Increase your front wing angle for qualifying for the fastest outright lap times.
    • Lower the front wing angle ahead of the race for better straight-line speed. You can make this setup change under Parc Ferme rules.
  • Reduce the on-throttle differential to help reduce the amount of wheelspin at slower speeds.
  • Soften the car’s suspension setup to reduce wheel spin and improve traction.
  • For shorter races, either online or offline, increasing the tyre pressures can help with a bit of extra grip.

F1 24 Baku race strategy

Baku doesn’t feature too many high-speed corners that overload the tyres. This means that tyre wear isn’t as much of an issue here as it can be at other circuits in F1 24.

Baku is very much a rear-limited circuit due to the traction zones where you’ll be accelerating hard from a slow speed. This will wear the rear tyres out before the front tyres. However, these areas of the track won’t wear your tyres out excessively much.

You can fairly comfortably complete a full race distance of Baku in F1 24 with only a single pit stop. Starting the race on the medium tyre gives you good grip and speed over the first few laps and the first stint. Then, pitting for a set of hard tyres will allow you to finish the race comfortably.

There really is no need to use the soft tyres in a race at Baku as they won’t last long enough to be an effective race tyre. Instead, I would recommend using the soft tyres to complete practice goals during the practice sessions, and for qualifying.

Why is Baku so hard to drive in F1 24?

The Baku circuit is a really technical track that features some incredibly slow corners. However, due to the long straight, we need to run a low downforce car setup, and through slow corners, the low downforce approach will make the cars harder to control.

How can I be faster around Baku?

The key to fast lap times around Azerbaijan in F1 24 is good throttle management. When exiting the slower corners of the first and second sectors, utilising gradual throttle application can prevent your rear wheels from spinning and will result in a smoother and faster lap around Baku.
