Track Guide
F1 24 Red Bull Ring Track Guide
The Red Bull Ring in Austria is an incredibly high-speed circuit and one of the shortest on the Formula 1 calendar, resulting in extremely quick lap times. Due to the high-speed nature of most corners, car balance is very important on this circuit.
In F1 24, you’ll require a stable car setup with optimised suspension and aerodynamics to attack each corner and record the fastest lap times.
Being high-speed, should you use a high or low-downforce car setup for Austria?
Austria has one of the longest straights of any track in Formula 1, running from the first corner to turn 3. This straight, along with the straight that follows and the pit straight, allows for great overtaking opportunities.
Setting up your car to have lower downforce will benefit your ability to overtake and defend against other drivers throughout a race in F1 24. Lowering the aerodynamic setup further during a race can also be more beneficial.
The fast sweeping turns through the middle and end of the lap require a good aerodynamic balance, meaning you cannot remove as much downforce as you would at a track like Monza.
Should I prioritise front or rear downforce?
With many corners being high speed, a good setup balance between front and rear aero is important. You’ll need a good front end to eliminate understeer whilst ensuring that you have enough downforce at the rear of the car so your car doesn’t become twitchy through the high-speed turns.
I recommend prioritising a higher front aerodynamic setup to ensure you don’t understeer. Any amount of understeer through the fast corners will result in you having to brake harder to get your car turned in towards the apex. This scenario can result in you losing a lot of lap time.
How can I stop wheel spin out of turn 3 at the Red Bull Ring?
Opting for a lower downforce car setup at the Red Bull ring in F1 24 will help with straight-line speed and can be the fastest route. However, this will also cause some potential issues, especially with wheel spin out of the incredibly slow turn 3 and even turn 4.
To prevent spinning your wheels under acceleration when exiting turns 3 and 4, you can adjust your car setup in a few ways. The first option is to lower the on-throttle differential. Compared to previous Formula 1 games, we have much more control over the differential in F1 24.
Lowering it down as you approach turn 3 can help you maintain traction while accelerating hard down the following straight. After turn 4, you can manually increase the on-throttle differential setup for the rest of the lap.
Austria race strategy in F1 24
The Red Bull Ring in Austria is a circuit that drivers have to push hard at constantly. Most of the track is made up of faster corners, many of which are quite ling. These corners put a lot of strain on the tyres, especially at the front of the car.
As a car leans through a corner, the outside front tyre takes a lot of the load from the car, which can result in tyres overheating and lead to additional tyre wear.
Due to the high tyre wear at Austria in F1 24, I would recommend a two pitstop strategy that utilises both the medium and hard tyres. The track is too demanding to use the soft tyres as they won’t last long.
If you compete in a full race distance at the Red Bull Ring in F1 24, starting on medium tyres and pitting twice is the fastest route. Adjusting the suspension geometry, you can adjust your car setup to be less punishing on your tyres.
What car setup will result in being fast around Austria in F1 24?
Opt for a low downforce car setup at the Red Bull Ring. This will ensure you are fast enough on the straights to challenge other cars for position. A low downforce approach can also wear the tyres less, however, you’ll need to be careful through the slower corners as you won’t have as much downforce as at some tracks.
What is the lap record around the Red Bull Ring?
The time trial lap record around Austria is around the 1:09.500 mark. This is an incredibly fast time. Getting within a few seconds of this lap time will mean you are incredibly fast and competitive.
