Britain F1 22 Setup
Silverstone is an extremely fast track, and one of the fastest in the F1 22. In fact, the average speed around Silverstone is only beaten by Monza. The majority of the British circuit is taken at extremely high speed, with corner sequences such as Maggotts, Becketts and Chapel all being extremely fast.
This means that you should target a relatively low downforce car setup while ensuring it is very stable at the rear of the car. Rear stability is crucial for a fast lap time around Silverstone in F1 22. You will be throwing your car left and right at extremely high speeds, so if the rear of your car doesn’t stick to the ground, you could end up in a tricky situation.
There are also a good number of medium to long straights around Silverstone. The majority of these are good overtaking opportunities with three of the straights including DRS zones.
The importance of rear stability
One of the best ways to improve your overall rear stability is via the increase in rear aerodynamics. While you do want to run relatively low downforce for your Britain F1 22 setup, increasing your rear aerodynamics won’t affect your top speed as much as increasing your front aero would.
Your rear wing creates less drag than your front wing, allowing us to add a couple of extra points to our rear wing aerodynamics without limiting our straight-line speed.
Another way of improving rear stability around the fast sectors of Silverstone is by increasing your rear suspension stiffness and your anti-roll bar stiffness.
Anti-roll bars will prevent your car from rolling from side to side as much as you turn left and right. This is important around faster corners such as Stowe. Don’t go too stiff though as if your car is too stiff it can be prone to snap oversteer. This is when the rear of your car suddenly snaps on you when you apply steering input very quickly.
Because with our Silverstone car setup in F1 22 we will be typically lowering our front aerodynamics to help with straight-line speed. We can then increase the stiffness of our front suspension. This will help your car be a little more responsive on corner entry and help negate some of the downforce lost from running a low front aero setup.
With an ideal F1 22 Silverstone setup, your front suspension would be slightly stiffer than the rear to aid responsiveness. Your front aero should be lower than your rear to help straight-line speed. And your ARBs (anti-roll bars) can be pretty stiff.
Limit tyre wear
Silverstone can be harsh on tyres. This is because you are putting a lot of stress through the tyres when you lean on them at high speeds. This increases your tyre temperature and increases overall tyre wear.
To limit the amount of tyre wear you experience, try not to set up your suspension geometry too aggressively. This means, keep camber levels fairly balanced and don’t run too much toe angle.
You will want a certain amount of camber angle to help your car grip as your car leans on them at high speed. But too much will increase tyre wear through a full British race distance.
You can also lower your on-throttle differential. This will aid tyre wear by limiting the amount of tyre slip you experience when accelerating from lower speeds.
Our final tip to limiting tyre wear around Silverstone in F1 22 is to lower your tyre pressures. Lower tyre pressures mean lower tyre temperatures, which will reduce the amount your tyres wear through a race. We always hear drivers being told to manage tyre temperatures during Grand Prix. This is to help reduce tyre wear across longer stints.
