Until recently, Formula 1 sim racers only had one official Formula 1 steering wheel to choose from, the Thrustmaster SF1000. That is a great wheel sitting in the budget to mid-range category. However, Sim-Lab has partnered with the Mercedes-AMG Formula 1 team to reinvent the Formula 1 sim racing steering wheel completely.
The Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team Sim Racing Steering Wheel (to give it its full name), is an officially licensed Mercedes-AMG Formula 1 steering wheel, designed for sim racing.
This steering wheel is compatible with a range of sim racing wheels and, due to its pricing and design, sits in the extreme premium category. Here are all of the details of this stunning new sim racing steering wheel.
You can buy the Sim-Lab Mercedes-AMG Formula 1 steering wheel today, directly from the Sim-Lab store.
As quoted by Sim-Lab themselves, this officially licensed Formula 1 steering wheel has been designed to be “the best sim racing steering wheel on the market”.
Sim-Lab has had a long-standing partnership with the Mercedes-AMG Formula 1 team, providing them with the latest sim racing equipment. A range of Mercedes-AMG Esports drivers currently use Sim-Lab sim racing hardware.
It is no surprise that this partnership has evolved into the production of one of the most realistic sim racing steering wheels available.
This steering wheel has been designed to be a complete replica of the real-world steering wheel used by Lewis Hamilton and George Russell. Mercedes-AMG provided the real CAD data for Sim-Lab to work from, and the Dutch sim racing brand applied manufacturing processes that are used by the Mercedes-AMG F1 team.
The level of detail on this steering wheel is outstanding. The body is constructed from carbon fibre, resulting in an incredibly light steering wheel that weighs just 1240 grams.
Everything from the diameter of 280mm to the rubber silicone hand grips has been designed for ultimate realism and comfort. Across the wheel, you’ll find the magic buttons Lewis and George use during a race, an authentic clutch mechanism, official decals, and button caps.
A large 4.3-inch digital display sits at the centre of the steering wheel, just like we see every weekend during a Formula 1 broadcast.
This screen can display a range of live telemetry and data, and Mercedes-AMG has provided dash layouts and LED profiles to match the real wheel.
It is fair to say that this official Merceds-AMG steering wheel isn’t cheap. Sim-Lab designed it to be the best sim racing steering wheel money can buy, opting for an extremely high-quality design and build.
This does equate to this being one of the most expensive sim racing wheels you can buy, and its even pricier than wheels from premium brands such as GSI, Cube Controls and more.
