The Logitech G923 may have been released in August 2020, and have a ten-year-old design which is based on the original G29 racing wheel. However, in 2025, Logitech has no plans to discontinue this budget racing wheel as it is widely considered to be one of the best entry-level sim racing wheels that you can buy.

It’s a wheel that is supported by almost every racing game on every console and platform, and thanks to it being an older racing wheel, it can be purchased for much lower than its original RRP.

Now its 2025, I’m going to share my ultimate review of the Logitech G923 racing wheel. I’ll review how the wheel performs compared to newly released wheels, along with seeing how it performs in the latest racing titles. Ultimately, I want to see if this is a sim racing wheel that should still be recommended as the king of budget racing wheels.

What is the Logitech G923 racing wheel?

Logitech is incredibly well known within the sim racing community due to its affordable racing wheels, which have been available for the past two decades. Wheels such as the G25, G27, and G29 have been the first step into sim racing for many gamers, and the Logitech G923 is the most recent affordable Logitech racing wheel.

The G923 is an evolution of the G29, which launched in 2015. This means the design of this wheel has been available for around a decade. To differentiate itself, the G923 includes a good number of improvements and upgrades compared to the older Logitech G29.

What’s included when buying a Logitech G923?

It is worth noting that the Logitech G29 is a complete sim racing bundle. It includes the wheel base (the part of the wheel that houses the motor and produces force feedback), a pre-mounted steering wheel, and a three-pedal set.

This bundle allows the G923 to be a plug-and-play racing wheel, making it incredibly simple to set up. The wheel itself includes an in-built table clamp allowing you to easily mount the wheel to any desk, table or sim racing cockpit.

Wheel baseYesThe wheel base houses the motor and all electronics. This motor is responsible for creating force feedback, and is one of the most important parts of any racing wheel. On the G923, this is the slanted box directly behind the steering wheel.
Steering wheelYesThe wheel base houses the motor and all electronics. This motor is responsible for creating force feedback and is one of the most important parts of any racing wheel. On the G923, this is the slanted box directly behind the steering wheel.
PedalsYesA full three pedal set is included with the G923, featuring a throttle, brake and clutch pedal. The brake pedal has been improved compared to the G29.
Table clampYesThere is an in-built table clamp in the wheel base which lets you quickly mount the G923 to any table, desk or cockpit.
Quick releaseNoThe steering wheel is non-removable and there is no quick release included.
ShifterNoThere are paddle shifters behind the steering wheel. However, the standard G923 bundle does not include a separate shifter, although one is available to buy.

Improvements in the G923 compared to the G29

With the G923 being an evolution of the G29, you’ll notice a lot of similarities, and these include the appearance. The G923 looks very similar to the older G29, and uses an almost identical design to the PlayStation-compatible G29 wheel. The main visual difference is that the G923 features an all-black design, and that really is about it.

The performance upgrades in the G923 compared to the G29 include a new vibration technology called Trueforce, which was a pretty innovative feature when it was released in 2020. Trueforce is essentially a vibration technology that uses the in-game audio to produce vibrations through the steering wheel. These generally portray your car’s RPM, with intensifying vibrations as your car revs harder.

The addition of Trueforce allowed the G923 to provide more force feedback data to the sim racer as well as improving immersion. Another key upgrade compared to the older G29 racing wheel is the brake pedal, which was adjusted to be much more realistic.

One of the main disappointments of most budget racing wheel bundles is that the pedal set often feels cheap with a very unrealistic braking experience. Logitech improved the whole brake pedal assembly to make the pedal much stiffer than the soft pedal from the G29. This provides an experience much more similar to a loadcell pedal which is often seen as the best sim racing pedal technology.

Which is better, the Logitech G923 or G29?

From a design, functionality, and performance perspective, the Logitech G923 is a far better racing wheel than the older G29. Improvements throughout, including Trueforce and an improved brake pedal, make the gameplay much more enjoyable with the newer G923.

However, since the release of the G923 wheel, the older Logitech G29 had a big price reduction, making it considerably cheaper to buy than the G923. Many sim racers may consider the improvements in the Logitech G923 not to outweigh the price difference between the G923 and G923. Therefore, many will still choose the older Logitech G29 over the newer and better G923.

How much does the Logitech G923 cost in 2025?

The recommended retail price of the Logitech G923 hasn’t changed much since its original launch in 2020. When buying this racing wheel from Logitech’s website, this wheel will still cost you £379.99 or $349.99.

This is pretty expensive for a budget racing wheel, especially considering brands such as Thrustmaster have much cheaper racing wheels. At this price, you can also buy a direct drive racing wheel such as the MOZA R3 bundle which arguably offers better performance.

However, it is worth noting that you can buy the Logitech G923 racing wheel bundle for much less than its RRP at most retailers. Third party retailers such as Amazon often have extremely competitive deals and discounts on the Logitech G923.

At the time of writing this review, you can buy the G923 wheel from Amazon UK for £275, or $297 from Amazon US.

Where to buy the Logitech G923

Due to it being such a popular racing wheel, the Logitech G923 is stocked and sold by many different retailers. It is always worth shopping around for the best price for this racing wheel.

I would recommend checking local electronics retailers such as Currys in the UK and Microcenter in the United States. Then always compare the best price you can find to Amazon, as they often sell the G923 below RRP.

Your final check should be on Logitech’s own website. You will occasionally find a Logitech G discount as they often run promotions such as £50 off a £250 spend.

Comparing the Logitech G923 to newer racing wheels

When the Logitech G923 released in 2020, its main competition were much older racing wheels. This positioned the G923 as one of the best choices for a budget racing wheel. Since its launch, there has been a big shift in sim racing towards small and affordable direct drive racing wheels.

What is direct drive and how does it compare to the G923?

Direct drive is the term for mounting a motor directly to the steering shaft. This route removes any belts or gears and allows for better force feedback strength and detail.

The Logitech G923 uses gear-driven force feedback. This means a small motor is connected to the steering shaft via a series of gears. These gears can be felt while racing and limit the G923’s peak performance.

Logitech G923 TrueForce Motor

Now, in 2025, most racing wheels that are released use direct drive technology, and this leaves the Logitech G923 at a performance disadvantage. A direct drive racing wheel will almost always have better force feedback performance than a gear driven racing wheel like the G923.

Below is an overview of the Logitech G923 and its direct competitors in 2025 along with how they compare in terms of price and technology.

Racing wheelFFB technologyRRP
Logitech G923Gear-driven£379.99 or $349.99
MOZA Racing R3Direct drive£399 or $399
Fanatec CSL DD bundleDirect drive€399.95 or $399.95
Cammus C5 bundleDirect drive£329 or $329
Thrustmaster T248Gear and belt driveThrustmaster T248

You can see that other than the Logitech and Thrustmaster racing wheels, all direct competitors in the same price range utilise direct drive technology. The one good thing about the Logitech G923 being older than all of the racing wheels above is that it can be purchased for much cheaper than RRP, making it a good deal cheaper than most of its competitors.

How does the Logitech G923 perform?

Mounting the Logitech G923 to our sim racing cockpit in 2025 provides an incredibly modern experience. The force feedback produced by the small motor can sometimes feel clunky. This is a result of the G923 using gear-driven force feedback. You can occasionally feel the gears grinding or clunking into place, and this is a sensation that you don’t get with newer direct drive racing wheels.

However, the Trueforce technology is a party trick that most newer racing wheels don’t use. This vibration technology is present in more premium racing wheels such as the Fanatec ClubSport DD, but isn’t included with any of the Logitech wheel’s direct competitors.

Trueforce is a real point of difference and can elevate the overall immersion a lot. You can dial the intensity of Trueforce up or down either in-game or using the Logitech software on a PC, and this lets you find a balance between the vibration being too overwhelming and not present.

Logitech G923 G Hub Settings

Much like the G923 as a whole, Trueforce is supported by most games, with most titles including specific options in the wheel configuration settings. Trueforce also works on Xbox and Playstation, meaning console gamers can access this immersive technology.

Logitech G923 pedal performance

I mentioned it earlier in this review, but the Logitech G923 features a vastly different brake pedal compared to the older G29 wheel. Thanks to its incredibly stiff elastomers, the G923 performs much more like a load cell pedal.

With the older pedal on the G29, the brake was incredibly soft which makes achieving braking consistency very tricky. This stiff design allows for more consistency when braking, as you can apply consistent pressure each time you brake.

Is the Logitech G923 supported in modern racing games?

One of the biggest draws of the Logitech G923, other than its price point, is that almost every racing game supports it. Most racing games, including the most recent titles such as Gran Turismo 7, Forza Horizon 5, The Crew Motorfest and Assetto Corsa Evo, all provide preset configurations for the G923.

The G923 is also compatible with Xbox and PlayStation consoles, making it very easy to plug-and-play and use with any game on any platform.

Is the Logitech G29 worth buying in 2025?

It had been a few years since I had used my Logitech G923 racing wheel for an extended period. During that time, I’ve been using almost exclusively direct drive racing wheels. Getting my G923 out of its box and re-mounting it to my sim rig has been a surprising experience.

The G923 still holds up in terms of the overall sim racing experience it offers. The TrueForce technology allows this wheel to feel modern and relevant, and in some cases, better than newer racing wheels. Logitech’s quality and design also still feel modern with the design of the steering wheel feeling very premium considering its price thanks to the perforated leather hand grips.

When recommending the best budget racing wheel, which is a question I get asked often, I will typically recommend two wheels. The first is the MOZA R3 which is priced very similarly to the G923 racing wheel, but offers direct drive performance and a much larger ecosystem of accessories. The main downside of the R3 is that it doesn’t have any PlayStation compatibility.

The second racing wheel I recommend is the Logitech G923 due to its incredible support on every platform and with almost every racing game. Its force feedback and immersion also hold up incredibly well despite its age, making the Logitech G923 still worth buying in 2025.
