Updating the firmware for your Fanatec wheel should be one of the first things you look to do once you have your steering wheel connected to your wheel base. The latest firmware will ensure your wheel is running in its most up-to-date form. Firmware updates can include bug fixes, improvements and they even sometimes open up new features on older products.
Although updating the firmware sounds like a pain, luckily it is an easy process. Follow the easy steps below to update your firmware in just a matter of minutes.
The first step, before you do anything else is to ensure you download the latest firmware for your Fanatec product.
Do this by heading over to the Fanatec downloads website www.fanatec.com/downloads. From there, you should see a list where you can select the product that you are looking to update.
Alternatively, you can search for your product on the Fanatec website, and scroll down to the downloads section on the products page.
If there are multiple drivers available, ensure you download the newest ones.
Click on the driver name to initiate the download.
The next step once you have downloaded the correct drivers is to install them. For this step, you need to ensure that your wheel is connected to your PC so that the drivers can install directly onto your wheel.
The first part of the install will install the Fanatec driver software on your computer. Open up the downloaded driver package and start the install.
There should be two .msi files within the package that you downloaded from Fanatec, one for a 32bit version of Windows, and the other for 64bit. Opt for the correct file for your version of Windows.
On Windows 10 or 11 you can find which version of Windows your PC is running by doing the following;
Once you start the install, the setup will guide you through the easy install process. Once the install has been completed successfully you will be prompted to restart your computer. You should do this before proceeding to the next step.
Once you have restarted your PC, open up the Fanatec Control Panel from the new icon on your desktop.
Once open you should see which Fanatec equipment you have connected to your computer. You can then navigate to the properties tab and then click the update firmware buttons.
This will run through the firmware update for each of your Fanatec products. Simply follow the steps through the setup to successfully update your product.
Finally, you should click “connect” and then click “flash firmware” to finalise the firmware update.
Once you have successfully updated the drivers and firmware for each of your Fanatec products, you can disconnect your wheel base from your computer. Then you can connect it to whichever console or platform you are racing on.
You should regularly check the Fanatec website to ensure you are running the most up-to-date drivers and firmware for your products. Simply work this into your monthly routine and you should always be up-to-date.
If you need to update your Fanatec drivers or firmware again in the future. Simply follow the easy steps above again.
