We compare the brilliant Fanatec ClubSport V3 pedals vs the ClubSport V3 Inverted pedals to find out which is the better sim racing pedal and which you should buy!
Before we dive in to our full comparison, lets take a quick look at both the Fanatec V3 vs Inverted pedals.
Best Pedals For Sim Racers
The ClubSport V3 pedals are one of the better pedal kits you can purchase from any brand. They feature a load cell to replicate the real feeling of a road or track car, which is fully adjustable. You can adjust this load cell to dial in the most realistic braking force to match a real car. As well as this, the pedals themselves are adjustable, the brake pressure is adjustable and as with all Fanatec products, these pedals are manufactured to the highest quality.
Best Pedals For Real World Racers
The V3 Inverted pedals up the ante some what. They flip the clutch and brake pedal to be pivoted from the top, rather than bottom. This change replicates real world cars and can completely change how you brake or heel and toe. The new pedals also feature longer travel and distances which is also designed to replicate real world cars.
Another perk of the V3 Inverted pedals is that they include a resistance-adjustable ClubSport Damper Kit. This is an optional upgrade for the standard V3 pedals, so to see that included makes up for some of the increase in price. This hydraulic kit comes pre-mounted and allows you to adjust the damping on the brake pedal giving you maximum customisation.
Below we will run through the crucial differences between the two pedal kits, but for those who are looking for a quick answer for which pedal set to buy, we have included our summary directly below. This is the TL;DR answer!
The price increase from the standard V3 pedals to the Inverted pedals is dramatic. In essence you are almost doubling the price of the V3’s to purchase the Inverted pedals. And, well, the only real difference is the mounting, plus some added value with the inclusion of the damper kit of course.
However, if you do all of your racing via a sim game, or most of your racing is in open wheeled or formula cars, we would recommend purchasing the standard V3’s.
If you do race cars in real life, or really want the closest experience to racing real life road cars, then by all means, the Fanatec V3 Inverted pedals do increase the immersion some what. They may just be worth the extra cost to bring your sim rig up to the standard you desire.
Best Fanatec Pedals
So, with the quick overview of each product over, lets delve in to the main differences. The V3 Inverted pedals come with a large increase in price, over £210/€240. Some of this price increase can be offset against the included features which the standard Fanatec V3 pedals don’t have.
The ClubSport damper kit introduces a hydraulic feeling to the braking action. In a real car the brake pedal has a mechanical resistance, which this damper upgrade kit incorporates. It can be attached to the brake or gas pedal, and comes pre-installed to the brake pedal in the V3 Inverted pedals. This can be changed over to the gas pedal if you prefer.
The damping of this hydraulic damper can be easily adjusted quickly and without tools. You can increase or decrease the damping to fit your personal preference in just a couple of seconds.
This ClubSport Damper would normally cost €79.95 if bought separately. If we offset this against the increase in price of €240/£210, we will be left with an price difference between the Fanatev V3 vs Inverted pedals of €160/£140.
So what other improvements have been made to the Inverted pedals that make them worth this much extra?
On the Inverted pedals, the clutch and brake pedals have been engineered to replicate a real world car much closer than the standard V3 pedals. This includes more realistic throw distances on both the clutch and brake.
If you are racing on the standard V3 pedals, you may have noticed that both the brake and clutch don’t travel as far as your every day car. This can feel strange at first, as you will be hitting the bump stop on the clutch during shifts during your first few play sessions. It may also take some time to get use to the shorter brake pedal travel, especially if you are using a heel and toe technique under braking.
Of course, over time you will get used to the travel of your pedals very quickly and this will soon become a non issue. However if you jump from a sim rig with the Fanatec V3 Inverted pedals equipped you will soon realise what you are missing out on. Your first play session jumping between standard mounted pedals and inverted pedals will feel much different. You can instantly notice the increased travel on the pedals and heel and toe braking feels much more authentic to racing a real race car.
As mentioned above, the switch from bottom mounted to top mounted pedals does increase realism. If you have ever driven your road car in anger or raced a real car on a track, the inverted pedals will feel much more authentic. It may improve your pedal feeling and your braking accuracy.
Whether making the switch to inverted pedals will make you faster is debatable. If you often drive cars on a track in real life, and heel and toe often, you will feel more comfortable with the Inverted pedals. If however, your only real experience of driving a race car is via a racing sim, then you may not notice any improvement to your braking technique or your lap time.
