Buying a complete sim racing setup in 2024 can be expensive, and there is no denying that sim racing is an expensive hobby. To go sim racing, you require at least three pieces of equipment, a wheel base, a steering wheel and a set of pedals.
However, to help lower the cost, many sim racing brands sell these three pieces of sim racing gear as a bundle. Racing wheel and pedal bundles take some of the stress out of finding compatible products, as well as lowering the cost of buying a complete sim racing setup.
This includes major sim racing brand Fanatec. They offer a range of sim racing bundles which include their most popular products such as the CSL DD racing wheel.
In this guide, I’m going to run through every racing wheel bundle that Fanatec currently offers in 2024. I’ll show you all options, from budget sim racing bundles to more premium bundles. And I’ll share our thoughts on which bundle offers the best value.
Fanatec offers a wide range of sim racing products, from different wheel bases to multiple steering wheels, pedals and accessories. One of the great parts of such a wide ecosystem is that sim racers can mix and match products.
however, buying each part of a complete sim racing setup individually can be expensive. And this is where bundles come in. Fanatec offers a range of sim racing bundles from budget-orientated bundles through to premium bundles costing thousands of dollars, euros or pounds.
Below is a list of each bundle that Fanatec offers, including its price and a link to buy it. If you continue reading, I’ll share more detailed information on each bundle, including which Fanatec products are included in each bundle.
All prices below were correct at the time of writing this guide but may have increased or decreased due to any promotions available. You can view each product on Fanatec to see the most accurate price.
The Fanatec GT DD Pro is one of the most popular sim racing wheels that Fanatec sell in 2024. It is a PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 compatible racing wheel that offers direct drive force feedback at a reasonable price.
Before both the CSL DD and GT DD Pro wheel bases were launched a few years ago, the cheapest direct drive racing wheel would have set you back close to a thousand pounds, euros or dollars.
Fanatec changed this trend with the CSL DD and GT DD Pro wheel bases. These racing wheels took on a much smaller form factor, offering peak torque of either 5Nm or 8Nm which is created from a motor that is directly attached to the drive shaft.
Direct drive technology offers the best performance in terms of both detailed force feedback, and ultimate strength.
While the GT DD Pro offers a maximum strength of 8Nm which is around half the strength of premium direct drive wheel bases. It does make use of the large motor that is directly mounted to the driveshaft. This allows the GT DD Pro to create force feedback that is much more detailed than similarly price non-direct drive racing wheels.
The GT DD Pro 5Nm bundle is the cheapest and most cost-effective Fanatec GT DD Pro bundle. Included in this bundle is the 5Nm version of the GT DD Pro wheel base. And it also includes a Gran Turismo licensed steering wheel.
This bundle was designed to offer a complete sim racing package for PlayStation sim racers. The partnership with Gran Turismo is evident in the name of this racing wheel, with GT in GT DD Pro standing for Gran Turismo.
There are also a set of pedals and a table clamp included in this Fanatec bundle. The pedals are the CSL pedals, which feature both a throttle and brake pedal. These are ideal pedals for those starting out sim racing, and they can be upgraded at a later date to include a load cell brake pedal.
The table clamp is a great addition, as it allows sim racers to easily mount the GT DD Pro racing wheel to a table, desk or wheel stand. This makes setting up the wheel and storing it very easy and is great for those using their desk to sim race at or those with limited space.
The 8Nm GT DD Pro bundle is identical in almost every way to the 5Nm bundle above, however, it includes the Fanatec Boost Kit 180. This boost kit increases the maximum strength of the GT DD Pro wheel base up to 8Nm.
This allows for stronger force feedback to be created, giving a more well-rounded sim racing experience. I would always recommend opting for the 8Nm GT DD Pro over the 5Nm version if possible, as it offers a lot more range within the force feedback.
The price increase is €/$149.95, which is the standard price of the Boost Kit 180. This means that if you purchase the 5Nm bundle above, you can pick up and use the Boost Kit 180 at any date in the future without losing out on price.
The GT DD Pro Premium bundle offers a step up from the two standard GT DD Pro bundles above. This bundle includes everything that is in the more powerful 8Nm GT DD Pro bundle above, including the Boost Kit 180.
The defining feature of this premium bundle is that it includes an upgrade for the pedals. This Fanatec bundle includes the CSL Pedal Load Cell Kit. This turns the pedals into a full three pedal set and converts the brake pedal into a load cell brake.
A load cell brake pedal is a significant upgrade over standard potentiometer or hall effect brake pedals. The upgraded brake pedals uses a load cell to measure the force applied to the pedal. This differs from more traditional pedals as they normally measure the pedal distance.
Using a load cell will almost always improve your lap time and performance, by allowing you to brake more consistently. Using a load cell will allow you to form muscle memory under braking allowing you to be more consistent and push the limits under braking.
The main reason for upgrading to the Fanatec GT DD Pro Premium bundle is entirely down to the upgraded pedals, and this is a very worthwhile upgrade. However, if budget is important, you can upgrade the pedals at a later date to include the load cell pedal.
The CSL DD racing wheel came before the popular GT DD Pro, and is actually cheaper to buy than the GT DD Pro. This is due to its limited compatibility in comparison to the GT DD Pro.
The CSL DD racing wheel is compatible with both PC and Xbox consoles including the older Xbox One and newer Xbox Series X|S. In comparison, the GT DD Pro is compatible with PC and Xbox consoles, but also includes additional compatibility with PS4 and PS5.
However, if you are a PC or an Xbox sim racer, then the CSL DD racing wheel and the CSL DD bundles offer a cheaper option.
The internals of the CSL DD and GT DD Pro are almost identical, allowing both wheel bases to perform equally well. Both offer 5Nm and 8Nm versions and both produce incredibly detailed force feedback from their small form factor.
If you are looking for the absolute cheapest Fanatec racing wheel bundle, then the CSL DD Race Ready P1 Bundle is absolutely the bundle to go for. The CSL DD P1 bundle is the most budget-friednly Fanatec bundle, but still includes everything you need to go racing.
The P1 bundle includes the 5Nm CSL DD wheel base. This is one of the very cheapest direct drive racing wheels available in 2024. The inclusion of the P1 V2 steering wheel and the two-pedal CSL Pedal set makes this one of the very cheapest ways to get into a direct drive ecosystem.
You do have the option for upgrading either the wheel base to 8Nm or the pedals with the load cell brake upgrade at any point in the future.
The Fanatec CSL DD WRC Bundle is a racing wheel and steering wheel bundle. But it doesn’t include a pedal set, meaning it isn’t a complete ready to race bundle.
Instead, the CSL DD WRC Bundle pairs the upgraded 8Nm CSL DD wheel base with a WRC branded steering wheel. The steering wheel in particular is the reason to purchase this bundle, with it being a very nice wheel rim.
The wheel rim is circular making it perfect for rallying and drifintg. It features a screen at the top of the wheel rim that can be used to show live telemetry such as speed. And the outer rim is covered in genuine Alcantara.
Overall, if you already have a set of peadls, and are upgrading your sim racing setup, and after a new racing wheel and steering wheel, this is a fantastic option.
The Fanatec CSL DD F1 Esports Premium bundle is the ultimate CSL DD bundle. Much like the GT DD Pro Premium bundle, this CSL DD version includes the 8Nm wheel base upgrade, and the load cell brake kit upgrade, turning the pedals into a full three-pedal load cell set.
The other unique selling point of this Fanatec bundle is the inclusion of the F1 Esports V2 wheel. This steering wheel is a rectangular formula-style steering wheel that is officially licensed by Formula 1. It carries the Formula 1 branding on the front of the wheel and is used in official Esports competitions.
This is the ultimate bundle for Formula 1 fans and those who like to sim race GT, prototype and open-wheel cars.
Fanatec’s Podium racing wheels are their most premium and highest-performing racing wheels. Both the Fanatec DD1 and DD2 wheel bases offer performance of over 20Nm of peak torque. This is over double that available from either the CSL DD or GT DD Pro.
The DD1 creates peak torque of up to 20Nm of torque from its large direct drive motor. The more powerful DD2 improves the performance up to 25Nm of peak torque. This is more force feedback strength than most sim racers will use on a regular basis.
Unfortunately, at the time of writing this guide, the Fanatec DD1 doesn’t have any bundles available, although there are a couple of bundles available for the more powerful DD2.
The Podium Racing Wheel Formula bundle is the cheapest Fanatec bundle that includes a Podium series wheel base. This bundle features the most powerful DD2 wheel base. It also includes the Formula V2.5X steering wheel which is one of Fanatec’s best selling steering wheels.
The major downside of this bundle is that there are no pedals included. This makes this the only bundle available that doesn’t include everything you need to go racing.
However, this is a bundle that is perfect for those who already have some sim racing gear, and are upgrading to a direct drive sim racing setup.
Instead of pedals, this bundle does include the Podium Advanced Paddle Module. This is one of the best paddle shift modules available from any brand. There are a total of six individual paddles that can all control different functions in-game.
At over €/$2,000, this is a very premium Fanatec bundle. Howver, it includes some of the very best sim racing products on the market in 2024. After purchasing this bundle, there would be almost no reason to upgrade any of your sim racing wheel gear in the future.
The Podium Racing Wheel Formula Bundle is the ultimate in Fanatec bundles. This package includes everything you need to go sim racing, including the ClubSport V3 pedals.
This is an improvement over the previous Podium bundle as it includes the ClubSport V3 pedals to complete the lineup.
Much like other bundles, the upgrade from the other Podium bundle to this doesn’t include any discount on the pedals. They are included at full price, meaning that if you wanted to purchase the cheaper Podium bundle, you could upgrade to the ClubSport V3 pedals in the future without losing any money.
However, if cost isn’t a factor, the Fanatec Podium Racing Wheel Formula Premium is the ultimate Fanatec sim racing bundle, featuring the very best products on offer.
