So far, we don’t have a confirmed release date for the BMW M4 GT3 in terms of when it will start shipping to customers. But we do have the date for when you can pre-order your BMW M4 GT3 wheel.
You can pre-order the Fanatec BMW M4 GT3 wheel from 20th December 2021 on Fanatec’s store here.
In a recent blog post by Fanatec CEO Thomas Jackermeier, the price of the upcoming BMW M4 GT3 wheel was released.
When it is available to pre-order, the BMW M4 GT3 price will be €/$1399.95.
Given the fact that this steering wheel is the exact same one that will be used in the actual 2022 BMW M4 GT3 car that price is pretty impressive. The wheel itself utilises real-world motorsport technology and materials, so you know you are purchasing an extremely high-end piece of hardware.
In fact, when this steering wheel was first revealed back in 2020, most sim racers and experts had thought this product was going to come with a €/$4000 plus price tag!
The price of €/$1399.95 also includes the QR2 wheel-side quick release once that is released in 2022. This new and improved quick release will be sent out to all purchasers of the BMW M4 GT3 wheel free of charge upon release.
Until then, buyers of the BMW M4 GT3 First Edition will receive a gold anodised QR1 wheel-side quick release.
Fanatec first revealed the result of their partnership with BMW back towards the end of 2020. They showed the world their first glimpses of the BMW M4 GT3 steering wheel. This is a wheel that revolutionises how sim racing and real-world motorsport are combined.
The Fanatec BMW M4 GT3 wheel has been developed in partnership with BMW to work when connected to both a racing simulator wheelbase such as the Podium DD1, and in the 2022 BMW M4 GT3 car.
It is the first sim racing steering wheel that will work across both platforms and in Fanatec’s own words, it “sets a new bar for simulation realism”.
Fanatec has already been influential in pioneering how virtual racing meets real-world motorsports. They launched the Fanatec Esports GT Pro Series in partnership with the Fanatec GT World Challenge series.
This virtual racing series saw real drivers and teams lineup in a virtual race that rewarded championship points in the real-world Overall Teams’ Championship table. Much like the release of the BMW M4 GT3 wheel, this was the first time that virtual racing has ever affected real-world championship standings.
By working closely with BMW Motorsports, Fanatec have designed and manufactured a steering wheel that looks just like a real-world wheel, because it is a real-world wheel. Every wheel that is sold can be used either on a simulator or in a real-world M4 GT3 car.
This partnership, and the fact that this wheel is motorsport grade, means that the wheel itself has some pretty unique design qualities.
The wheel needed to be light enough to be used in long-distance races in a real GT3 car, as well as being able to withstand the strongest and harshest of forces. This means the wheel is constructed of 100% carbon fibre to meet both of these requirements.
That isn’t where the race-quality design stops. All of the inputs have been designed to be operated at high speeds with extreme ease. This means all buttons are LED-backlit, and the shifters and clutch paddles are built using motorsport grade sensors.
In total there are 12 front-facing push buttons, 2 rear-facing buttons, 3 12-position rotary switches and thumb encoders built directly into the grips. On the rear of the wheel, you will find push-pull magnetic shifters and dual-clutch paddles.
All of these inputs can be completely customised for both the real car, and for sim racing. Simply use the FanaLab software on your PC to create your own custom input layout.
This BMW M4 GT3 steering wheel is a true innovator and is quickly looking like one of the best Fanatec racing wheels available. Read our complete guide on the Fanatec product lineup.
The only place that you will be able to purchase the Fanatec BMW M4 Gt3 steering wheel will be from the Fanatec web store. Use the links below to view the store in your region.

So we know that this impressive steering wheel is directly compatible with the 2022 BMW M4 GT3 car via CAN bus. However not too many of us will be lucky enough to own or drive one of those.
In terms of console compatibility, Fanatec has confirmed this steering wheel will be compatible with PC, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles.
For it to work with PlayStation consoles, you will need a PlayStation compatible wheelbase such as the Podium DD1, DD2 or the brand new Gran Turismo DD Pro.
The first steering wheels that come off of the production line will come preinstalled with a gold anodised QR1 wheel-side quick release. The QR1 quick release is interchangeable, meaning that when the QR2 quick release has gone into production, it will be fully compatible.
Also, for anyone who pre-orders the BMW M4 GT3 steering wheel, they will be eligible to receive a QR2 quick release completely free of charge once it has been released.
BMW Motorsport has recently released a 30-minute video documentary about this exciting new steering wheel. The video dives into their partnership with Fanatec and how the BMW M4 GT3 steering wheel came to be.
The video is an interesting watch, especially if this is a racing wheel you are looking to purchase. It follows the Fanatec and BMW teams for a whole year during the production process.
You will hear from Fanatec CEO Thomas Jackermeier as well as the engineers behind the BMW M4 Gt3 wheel. There are also appearances from the BMW Motorsport drivers, with the film starting with the product announcement in 2020 at the BMW SIM Live event at BMW Welt in Munich.
You can watch the full video below.
