Read our buyers guide on the best racing wheels for the new F1 24 on Xbox, PS5 and PC.
The F1 23 is the closest most of us can get to jumping into a Formula 1 (or Formula 2) car and racing around a track at 200mph. Formula 1 cars do appear in other sims including iRacing, F1 23 is the official racing game of the 2023 Formula 1 season. It’s the only place you can race every car and every track. And while F1 23 is a great game if you’re playing with a controller, it becomes even more immersive when you start racing F1 23 with a racing wheel.
Using the best F1 steering wheel for F1 23 not only increases immersion, but can also give you a competitive advantage over those not using a wheel. An F1 racing wheel gives sim racers much finer levels of control when attacking the corners in this year’s F1 23 game.
Here, I take a deep look at the very best F1 steering wheel for PS5, Xbox and PC. I’ll also show you the best budget racing wheels for F1 23, along with the best premium steering wheels.
Many will choose either an Xbox or PS5 console to race F1 23 on, so I’ll provide our recommendation for the best F1 steering wheel on PS5 and Xbox as well as on PC.
Each console and platform has different racing wheels that are compatible, meaning the best Xbox racing wheel won’t be the same as the best PS5 racing wheel.
I’ll also cover a range of budget categories, and provide our recommendation for the best budget F1 23 racing wheel, the best mid-range option, and the absolute best premium racing wheel you can buy in 2023.
TLDR: Before I delve too far into looking at the best F1 steering wheels and racing wheels for F1 23 in detail, I want to quickly show you the best F1 steering wheel for F1 23 on PS5, Xbox and PC.
Below are my three recommended F1 steering wheels for F1 23 that are compatible with the wheel bases below. Keep reading our F1 steering wheel guide for a much more in-depth look at the best F1 steering wheels for F1 23.

Each of the F1 steering wheels above needs to be attached to a wheel base to be usable in F1 23. The wheel base is the part of a complete racing wheel that produces the force feedback and is the part that gets mounted to your sim rig, desk or table.
Below are the best wheel bases for each console. It’s important to remember that your wheel base will need to be compatible with whichever F1 steering wheel you choose. For example, it’s always best to choose both a Fanatec steering wheel and wheel base or pair a MOZA wheel base and steering wheel together. This will ensure compatibility without the need for adapters.
Each of the recommended wheel bases below offers the perfect balance between budget and performance. If you fancy looking for more powerful racing wheels for F1 23, take a look at our recommended premium F1 racing wheel which I’ll talk about further in this guide.

Our recommendation for the best F1 racing wheel for F1 23 on the PS5 is:
When it comes to the best F1 23 racing wheel for PS5 and PS4, we’re going for a Fanatec racing wheel and steering wheel combination. Currently, there aren’t any other PS5 compatible racing wheels that compete with the quality of performance that the Fanatec GT DD Pro offers within this price range.
Not only is the GT DD Pro one of the very best racing wheels for F1 23 on PS5, the F1 steering wheel I’m recommending, the F1 Esports V2, is officially licensed by Formula 1 for Esports competition.
For more recommendations for the best PS5 racing wheels, read our complete guide on the best PS5 racing wheel.
When Fanatec released the CSL DD, and sim racers found out it was only compatible with Xbox and PC, the most common question across all of sim racing quickly became, when will there be a PlayStation version of the CSL DD?
Well, sim racers didn’t have to wait too long before Fanatec revealed the GT DD Pro. This wheel base looks different from the CSL DD, but keeps the same exterior size and internal architecture. And being a PlayStation-compatible racing wheel, it also carries the Gran Turismo name (Fanatec Gran Turismo DD Pro).
The GT DD Pro was released along with an official Gran Turismo racing wheel and it was marketed as the best racing wheel for Gran Turismo 7.
Inside the different exterior design is an almost identical internal architecture, which is capable of producing the same amount of torque as the CSL DD. This quickly allowed it to become one of the very best PS5 racing wheels around. This was compounded by the lack of any other PlayStation 5 compatible direct drive wheels (other than Fanatec’s own premium Podium F1 wheel).
In 2024, things haven’t changed too much in the PS5 sim racing space. And the Fanatec GT DD Pro remains one of the best racing wheels on PS5, and it’s ideal for F1 23.

For my recommendation of the best F1 steering wheel for PS5, I wanted to recommend an F1 steering wheel that is used in official F1 Esports competitions and actually carries the Formula 1 branding. And that steering wheel is a reasonably budget-friendly F1 steering wheel, the Fanatec F1 Esports V2.
The F1 Esports is a sim racing steering wheel that has been around for a few years and was used in official F1 Esports competitions. The upgraded V2 added a few improvements including upgraded magnetic shifters, an interchangeable quick release and revised software.
The simpler form factor that the F1 Esports V2 has, allows it to look slightly more elegant and less cluttered than the more expensive Fanatec Formula V2.5X steering wheel. This design style will appeal to many sim racers and has allowed it to be one of the most popular F1 steering wheels on PS5.
Much like the Formula V2.5X that I’ll talk about in our Xbox section, the F1 Esports V2 steering wheel features a range of inputs that allow you to control your car while on track in F1 23. Inputs are limited to push buttons and joysticks spread across the face of the steering wheel, allowing you to adjust in-game settings on the fly.

Our recommendation for the best F1 racing wheel on the Xbox is:
Next up, I want to look at the best Xbox racing wheel for F1 23. Xbox sim racers have a wide range of racing wheels to choose from from a variety of brands. Recently, MOZA Racing has entered the Xbox sim racing space with the launch of the MOZA R3. Unfortunately, this is only compatible with one steering wheel which isn’t in an F1-style, so I cannot recommend that wheel in an F1 wheel context.
There are great budget racing wheels for Xbox such as the Logitech G923 or the Thrustmaster T248. Then there are higher-powered direct drive wheels such as the Fanatec DD1 and the Logitech Pro Racing Wheel.
Our recommendation for the best F1 racing wheel for Xbox though is the mighty Fanatec ClubSport DD wheel base, combined with the brilliant Fanatec Formula V2.5X steering wheel.
This combination provides one of the best mid to high-range direct drive racing wheels capable of producing fantastic force feedback. And it is paired with one of the best-looking and most immersive F1 steering wheels, the Formula V2.5X.
The Fanatec ClubSport DD is one of the best direct drive racing wheels available in 2024. This racing wheel was launched towards the end of 2023, and really took the crown as one of the very best direct drive racing wheels around thanks to its new force feedback technology.
Fanatec really started the trend of smaller direct drive wheel bases with the launch of the CSL DD a few years ago, and due to the CSL DD being one of the first affordable, and Xbox-compatible direct drive wheel bases available, it quickly became a success.
Fanatec evolved this format with the GT DD Pro for PS5, and finally added the technology that was inside the CSL DD to the newer and more powerful ClubSport DD. A big part of the ClubSport DD’s launch was the addition of even better force feedback technology that can sustain high forces whilst giving the driver access to a range of detailed force feedback effects like never before.
Read our comparison between the Fanatec ClubSport DD and CSL DD to see which racing wheel is best for you.
The ClubSport DD produces 12Nm of consistent torque which is right in the sweet spot for a mid-range direct drive racing wheel. You can also increase the strength of force feedback by opting for the slightly more premium Fanatec ClubSport DD+ which increases the strength to 15Nm.
At 12Nm, this Xbox wheel base hits a real sweet spot in terms of force feedback performance. It features an evolution of the CSL DD and GT DD Pro design with a slightly larger form factor. Much like those racing wheels, the ClubSport DD can still be desk-mounted or hard-mounted to a sim rig.
The ClubSport DD really is one of the best direct drive racing wheels in 2024 in the upper mid-range sim racing wheel category.

When picking up a wheel base such as the Fanatec ClubSport DD, you will also need to purchase a steering wheel to use with the wheel base (The Fanatec ClubSport DD doesn’t come with a steering wheel). You will also have to ensure that the steering wheel you choose is compatible with both the wheel base and your Xbox console.
The F1 steering wheel I’m recommending is the Fanatec Formula V2.5X. This is one of the best formula-style steering wheels available in 2024 and is ideal for racing F1 23 on Xbox.
The Formula V2.5X is an iteration of the ever-popular Formula V2 (as you can probably tell from the name). It features a wide range of inputs such as buttons, rotary encoders, joysticks and more. And it is designed to pretty much perfection. The only thing this wheel is really preventing it from being the perfect F1 steering wheel is a large screen!
Out of the box, the Formula V2.5X will work perfectly with the Fanatec ClubSport DD wheel base, and it will also work with a range of other Fanatec wheel bases including those designed for PS5. It is completely compatible with Xbox consoles, meaning it’ll work right away and should be recognised in most Xbox racing games including F1 23.
The only negative thing about using this F1 steering wheel with an Xbox console is that some of the inputs won’t work. In fact, this is an issue that plagues every single Xbox-compatible steering wheel available. Xbox’s architecture simply doesn’t allow for additional inputs outside of the buttons you find on an Xbox controller to work. This means that some buttons and encoders won’t work on F1 23 on Xbox, but they will on PC and PS5.
Despite this downfall, the Formula V2.5X remains one of the best F1 23 wheels available across all platforms, especially Xbox.

Our recommendation for the best F1 racing wheel while racing on a PC is:
When moving on to PC and away from Xbox and PS5 consoles, sim racers get a much wider range of products to choose from. Compatibility isn’t as limited as it is on a console, and there are many more brands offering sim racing products.
When racing F1 23 on PC, you have access to a wide range of extremely powerful direct drive racing wheels. These include wheels from Simucube, SimXperience and more. But the racing wheel I’m recommending isn’t an extremely powerful high-end wheel. I’m sticking within the sweet spot of around 8-12Nm of torque as this is the strength that the majority of sim racers recommend racing at.
The wheel I’m recommending is the MOZA Racing R12 and the FSR steering wheel. This combination features possibly one of the very best F1 steering wheels available in 2023.
I’m going to start by talking about the wheel base. The MOZA R12 is a direct competitor for other mid-range direct drive wheel bases that sit around 8-12Nm in strength. This category includes both the CSL DD, GT DD Pro and ClubSport DD from Fanatec, the Thrustmaster T818 and the Logitech Pro Racing wheel.
But above all of them, I would recommend the MOZA R12. It was the fourth wheel base released by MOZA Racing, but it features amazing levels of force feedback performance, right in the sweet spot at 12Nm. And it includes one of the best lineups of compatible steering wheels.
When you boot up F1 23, the MOZA R12 will be recognised right away, and after a little bit of configuration and calibration, you’ll be ready to race around the streets of Monaco or the twists and turns of Suzuka.
One benefit of a MOZA Racing wheel, is that the MOZA Pit House software that controls the force feedback of the wheel is brilliant. You can adjust almost every aspect of your wheel from the overall strength, to the weight of the wheel, down to adjusting how your wheel behaves at individual frequencies.
In fact, the MOZA R12 is so high up on my recommendation list, that despite having the option of racing with a much more powerful wheel base, I’ve been using the MOZA R12 as my main sim racing wheel for over a year.

Thanks to the MOZA Quick Release Adapter, you can mount a wide range of racing wheels to your MOZA R12 wheel base. But MOZA themselves do sell one of the best F1 steering wheels, and that wheel is the one I would recommend for F1 23.
The MOZA FSR formula wheel is a masterpiece of design. It is an evolution of the MOZA GS wheel, featuring a similar input layout on the front of the wheel. However, it includes a large screen in the center, much like real-world F1 cars.
This screen is capable of producing real-time telemetry, and can be displayed in a layout which mirrors the steering wheels in F1 23. You can see how much overtake ERS you are using, your current lap time, tyre temperatures and more all from the screen on the steering wheel. This allows you to disable a lot of the HUD in F1 23, allowing for one of the most immersive experiences possible.
The FSR wheel also features staples such as magnetic shifters, RGB colour-changeable push buttons, rotary encoders and shift lights. And almost any part of the wheel can be customised from the colour and timing of the shift bar to the colour of the buttons.

Our F1 23 budget racing wheel recommendation is:
Within the budget racing wheel category, there are a lot of options for sim racers to contemplate. You have offerings from Thrustmaster, Logitech, MOZA and other wheel manufacturers. But there is one wheel that has been the king of the budget racing wheel for years, and that’s Logitech.
The Logitech G923 racing wheel is one of the best budget wheels for F1 23 on all platforms. It is Xbox, PS5 and PC compatible. It comes with a steering wheel and pedal set so you can start racing right away. And it is widely supported by almost every racing game including F1 23.
Logitech’s true party piece is called TrueForce. This technology allows the wheel to utilise the in-game audio to send vibrations to the steering wheel. This means that when you rev your engine or change gears, you will feel it in the steering wheel.
This is rather unique to Logitech and has been implemented to a higher degree in the newer Logitech Pro Racing wheel. The G923 was the first wheel to ever feature TrueForce, and it along with the wheels’ great design and build quality allows it to be our favourite F1 23 budget racing wheel.

Our F1 23 mid-range wheel recommendation is:
The Thrustmaster T300RS is a racing wheel that has been around for a long time, and remains one of the better mid-range wheels on the market in 2023.
It features a belt-drive force feedback system which isn’t quite as good as the newer direct drive racing wheels. However, it still produces fantastically smooth force feedback.
Thrustmaster have been releasing a wide range of wheels over the past few years, but they haven’t replaced the T300RS yet.
The T300RS is a PS5 and PC compatible racing wheel, but doesn’t feature Xbox compatibility. But don’t worry if you’re racing F1 23 on Xbox, as the Thrustmaster TX wheel offers the exact same performance.
Both the T300RS and the TX feature interchangeable steering wheels allowing you to use any Thrustmaster wheel rims with them, including the mighty SF1000 that I recommend picking up for F1 23.
The Thrustmaster SF1000 steering wheel is a special F1 steering wheel, and ideal for F1 23. It is a replica of the Ferrari steering wheel raced by Sebastian Vettel a few years ago.
It features a like-for-like recreation of the official SF1000 steering wheel, including the same buttons, dials and the large screen. If you are a Ferrari fan looking to race F1 23 in the most immersive way, then the SF1000 F1 steering wheel is without a doubt the best choice.
All of the rotary encoders and buttons work and allow you to control your car in-game mid-race. The large screen can give real-time telemetry information including lap time, tyre temperatures and more.
This F1 steering wheel replica really is a Ferrari fan’s dream wheel, and it carries a rather low price tag compared to some other F1 steering wheels on this list.

Our F1 23 mid-range wheel recommendation is:
Our final sector in this ultimate F1 23 wheel guide, is our premium racing wheel recommendation. Here I’m going to recommend the absolute best racing wheel you can buy in 2023, money no object.
Racing Wheel – Fanatec Podium Formula 25Nm
Compatibility – Xbox, PC
Price – €/$2039.85

That wheel is the Fanatec Podium Formula 25Nm. This F1 racing wheel bundle features a DD2 direct drive wheel base capable of producing up to 25nm of torque, which is more than you’ll ever need. To put that power into perspective, When I race on a 20Nm+ wheel base, I generally turn the force feedback strength down to 60-70%.
It also includes the mighty Fanatec Formula V2.5X steering wheel which I spoke about in the F1 23 Xbox wheel recommendation section.
And on top of that, you receive the Fanatec Podium Advanced Paddle Module. This module upgrades the standard shifters to a true premium set of shifters. There are six individual paddles included, two of which are constructed from real carbon fibre.
This paddle module includes magnetic shifters with hall effect sensors for added performance and durability. Then there are additional paddles which can be configured as a dual clutch or other inputs such as clutch, handbrake, throttle or brake.
You’ll also receive an emergency stop button which can be invaluable with a racing wheel this powerful. But as a whole, this bundle offers amazingly high quality sim racing products, that are perfect for tackling the toughest tracks in F1 23. As a little bonus, this bundle is compatible with Xbox as well as PC, opening up the compatibility to console sim racers.
