Best Racing Wheel For F1 22 on Xbox Series X|S / One

Fanatec CSL DD + McLaren GT3 V2

The combination of the Fanatec CSL DD’s incredible direct drive force feedback and the formula-style racing available from the McLaren GT3 V2 steering wheel make for the perfect combination to race with on F1 22 on Xbox consoles.

When it comes to sim racing wheels on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, we as sim racers have a great choice. There are very good racing wheels available from major brands such as Thrustmaster, Logitech and Fanatec.

All of the racing wheels available for Xbox span across a wide range of prices as well, giving you an option to race F1 22 on Xbox no matter your budget.

Some of the great racing wheels available for Xbox Series X|S include;

But in terms of the best racing wheel for F1 22 on Xbox, it has to go to the mighty Fanatec CSL DD. The CSL DD is a small wheel base that packs extremely good performance. And it does it all for a reasonable price when compared to other direct drive racing wheels.

Within its small size is a motor that is capable of producing up to 8Nm of torque. This provides force feedback that is more than strong enough to feel the full force of a Formula 1 car in F1 22. It will give you a workout across a full race distance if you run the CSL DD at 100% power!

The quality of the force feedback is incredibly detailed. Fanatec has used new internal architecture and software to produce some of the most vivid and detailed force feedback ever. You will be able to feel every kerb and every bump in the road allowing you to react to how your F1 car is handling.

The Fanatec CSL DD is only one part of your sim racing wheel setup for F1 22. The CSL DD is just the wheel base, the part of your racing wheel setup that creates the force feedback. To be able to race, you will also require a steering wheel. The great news is, that there is a wide range of steering wheels that are compatible with the Fanatec CSL DD.

The steering wheel we would recommend comes in as one of the cheapest Fanatec sells, but it delivers everything you need to go racing in F1 22. That steering wheel is the McLaren GT3 V2.

This is a steering wheel that replicates the exact steering wheel found in the McLaren 720S GT3 car. It is a formula and GT style steering wheel, perfect for racing the latest generation of Formula 1 cars in F1 22.

The steering wheel is designed with a carbon-fibre effect faceplate, 10 buttons, 3 rotary encoders and two joysticks. This allows you to program all of these inputs to control your car while racing.

The McLaren GT3 V2 is officially licensed for Xbox consoles and works brilliantly with the CSL DD wheel base. It comes with a quick-release system allowing you to easily connect or remove your steering wheel with ease just like in a real Formula 1 car!

Best Racing Wheel For F1 22 on PS5 / PS4

When it comes to racing F1 22 on PS5 and PS4, Fanatec has done a great job at providing an official Formula 1 licensed racing wheel. I’ve chosen to recommend the combination of the GT DD Pro wheel base and the F1 Esports V2 steering wheel.

Read our full guide on the best PS5 racing wheel here.

Fanatec GT DD Pro + F1 Esports V2

While the CSL DD was the first console direct drive wheel under £500, the Gran Turismo DD Pro was very quickly the first reasonably priced PS5 and PS4 direct drive wheel base. The GT DD Pro launched shortly before the release of Gran Turismo 7, and was even named after the mighty racing game.

Fanatec worked with the developers of Gran Turismo 7 to create the GT DD Pro bundle which included a Gran Turismo branded steering wheel. Since the launch of GT7, you can now purchase the Fanatec GT DD Pro individually, allowing you to create your own bundle with whichever steering wheel you prefer.

The GT DD Pro follows a very similar architecture to the CSL DD, and for good reason. The CSL DD is only compatible with Xbox consoles, leaving PS5 and PS4 owners without a reasonably priced wheel base. The GT DD Pro solves this problem by offering the same performance to PlayStation sim racers.

The exterior design differs from the design of the CSL DD allowing us to distinguish the difference between both wheel bases. But the architecture inside and almost all components are there same. This gives the same great performance found in the CSL DD.

To complete this PlayStation F1 22 racing wheel setup, I would highly recommend the Fanatec F1 Esports V2 steering wheel. This is an upgraded version of the original and very popular F1 Esports steering wheel. This wheel was designed to be the perfect steering wheel to be used in official F1 Esports events.

It features a Formula 1-inspired design, with the F1 logo on the front of the wheel. It is a relatively streamlined steering wheel, allowing for it to not cost too much. And it gives enough functionality to control your car throughout a race in F1 22.

While remaining reasonably low priced, this F1 steering wheel still looks incredibly premium. The body is constructed from machined aluminium and the handgrips are finished in real Alcantara.

Across the top of the wheel are a series of rev lights that utilise bright LEDs to show you when to shift gear. And just below this is an LED display that can show various readouts such as your speed, gear and more.

On the reverse of the wheel are upgraded magnetic paddle shifters, similar to those found in a Formula 1 car. These allow for easy gear changes during a race and feel great to use.

Overall, this steering wheel is a fantastic option for any Formula 1 fan. It gives you a great F1 style experience due to the shape and design of the steering wheel, and when paired with the GT DD Pro, you’ll have a killer racing wheel for F1 22.

Best Racing Wheel For F1 22 on PC

PC sim racers have the luxury of more choice when it comes to choosing a racing wheel for F1 22. There is much wider compatibility for sim racing products on PC as there are fewer limitations that are often found on consoles.

For the best racing wheel for F1 22 on PC I would have to recommend the brilliant Moza Racing R9 and FSR steering wheel. There is a huge range of products including high-end direct drive wheel bases from brands such as Simucube. However, when you consider the price of some of these premium products, the Moza R9 offers incredible value.

Moza Racing R9 + FSR Steering Wheel

Moza Racing broke onto the sim racing scene in 2021 launching a small selection of PC-compatible racing wheels. And in 2022 they released their second batch of sim racing products. This saw the release of the R9 wheel base, the GS steering wheel and the mightily impressive FSR Formula Wheel.

The R9 wheel base has been designed as an answer to Fanatec’s CSL DD and GT DD Pro wheel bases. It comes in a similar form factor to those two wheel bases, albeit slightly smaller and more condensed. And it features ever so slightly more force feedback strength than those two Fanatec products.

The Moza R9 wheel base can create up to 9Nm of torque, and the strength can be fully adjusted using the Moza Pit House software that is included. The force feedback that is created by the direct drive motor is crisp and detailed. You can feel exactly how your car is reacting to the road surface, allowing you to provide the right inputs to maximise your lap time.

It is also priced very competitively, coming in at just £399 / $439. When compared to the equivalent Fanatec products, they are priced between €479.95 and €599.95. This gives the Moza R9 the edge on pricing, allowing it to be a serious contender for the best mid-range wheel base for F1 22 on PC.

Where to buyBuy from MOZA

Where this Moza Racing racing wheel setup really shines is with the FSR steering wheel. The Moza FSR steering wheel is one of the best steering wheels I’ve raced with. It offers one of the most immersive formula-style racing experiences thanks to its large screen and 280mm diameter design.

You will immediately notice how high quality the Moza GS steering wheel is as soon as you remove it from its box. It comes in a neat fabric carry bag and is constructed from extremely high-quality materials.

The front of the FSR wheel is constructed from carbon fibre, and so are the dual-clutch paddle shifters on the rear. The handgrips are finished in real perforated leather and feel fantastic to use, either with or without gloves.

While racing in F1 22, you’ll have more than enough ways to adjust and control your car mid-race thanks to all of the inputs on the FSR wheel. You have a selection of 10 push buttons, 7 rotary encoders, 2 joysticks as well as a dual-clutch system on the rear of the wheel.

While racing on F1 22 on PC, you can assign all of these inputs to perform various tasks. These can include adjusting brake bias, navigating the MFD menu, changing your ERS modes and using DRS.

The dual-clutch system on the rear of the Moza FSR steering wheel allows you to get off the line perfectly. You can use both of the analogue paddles as a dual-clutch for your standing starts. And the two paddles directly above are contactless magnetic shifters allowing for precise gear changes.

But most immpressive is the large built-in display. This screen is capable of showcasing a wide range of live in-game telemetry. There are a good number of preset layouts which can be switched on the fly to display information such as lap times, position, tyre temperatures and more.

Best Premium Racing Wheel For F1 22

When it comes to premium and high-end racing wheels, there is a wide selection. Brands such as Simucube produce extremely high-performing direct drive wheel bases. While brands such as Cube Controls are specialists in creating exceptionally realistic and premium steering wheels.

But if you are looking for an all-in-one racing wheel bundle, the best place to look is at the Fanatec Podium F1.

Fanatec Podium F1

The Podium F1 combines a few of Fanatec’s most popular sim racing products and adds official Formula 1 branding to create the ultimate F1 22 racing wheel bundle. In the Podium F1 bundle you’ll get the mighty DD1 wheel base.

The DD1 wheel base is capable of producing a whopping 20Nm of torque. This is an incredibly strong amount of force. While there are wheel bases that produce stronger forces than the DD1, during regular use you won’t really need more than 20Nm of maximum torque. In fact, when I race with a DD1, I always turn my force feedback strength down to around 60-70%.

The DD1 included in the Podium F1 racing wheel is compatible with all consoles including Xbox Series X|S, and PS5. This makes it ideal to race F1 22 on any platform. Although as a slight caveat, you will need a different Xbox-compatible steering wheel to give this DD1 full Xbox compatibility.

You will also receive the Formula V2 steering wheel that sports a blue PlayStation colourway. There is also official F1 branding on the face of this steering wheel to show the partnership between Fanatec and Formula 1.

Fanatec Podium F1 Close Up

The steering wheel itself features a huge range of functionality, including 11 buttons, a selection of rotary encoders and rocker switches. All of these inputs allow you to control your car in F1 22, changing your setup and settings while racing.

Finally, you’ll receive the Podium Advanced Paddle Module as part of the Podium F1 racing wheel. This paddle module features six paddles that can be fully customised to your own preference. There are two carbon fibre shifters that utilise contactless technology to ensure maximum durability. The other two paddles can be configured in multiple ways such as a dual-clutch for the perfect start, or to activate functions such as DRS.

Overall, the Fanatec Podium F1 has to be one of the best racing wheels to race F1 22 with on any platform. Its all-around feature set and extremely strong force feedback allow this to still be one of the best sim racing wheels on the market in 2023.

Best Mid-Range Racing Wheel

If you are looking for a mid-range priced racing wheel for F1 22, you have a reasonable selection. I could easily recommend the Fanatec CSL DD and GT DD Pro that I mentioned above, however, I wanted to recommend another product for this category.

That product is the Thrustmaster T300RS wheel base combined with the Ferrari SF1000 steering wheel. While the T300RS wheel base offers strong performance for a relatively low cost, the Ferrari SF1000 steering wheel is the real star of the show here.

Thrustmaster T300RS + Ferrari SF1000

The Ferrari SF1000 is a complete replica of the steering wheel used in the Ferrari Formula 1 car. In fact, it’s so real looking, it could easily pass as the real deal!

The faceplate is manufactured from real carbon fibre, and at the heart of this steering wheel is a huge 4.3inch LC display. This display can be programmed to display a huge amount of information, allowing you to choose from 69 different pieces of information and telemetry.

This is one of the few steering wheels that allow you to really feel like you’re racing a real Formula 1 car. Everything here is authentic including the design and positioning of the buttons and inputs. Much like the steering wheels I’ve mentioned already in this guide, the Ferrari SF1000 features a large number of inputs allowing you to adjust your car mid-race.

There are 25 buttons including 7 encoders that allow you to adjust your car on the fly, all of which can be customised to your own configuration.

Thrustmaster Ferrari SF1000

There aren’t many sim racing steering wheels that offer as much immersion as the SF1000 does. Racing with this steering wheel really puts you in the heart of the cockpit in F1 22.

Steering Wheel – Thrustmaster SF1000
Compatibility – PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox Series X|S
Price – £349/$349
Where to buyBuy from Amazon UK/EU / Buy from Amazon US

The great news is that the SF1000 is widely compatible. It is compatible with all consoles including Xbox Series X|S and PS5, and it works with a wide range of Thrustmaster wheel bases.

To keep your budget within a mid-range level, I would look to opt for the Thrustmaster T300RS wheel base. The T300RS is a PlayStation-compatible wheel base, capable of producing up to 3.9Nm of torque.

The strength that the T300RS can produce puts it a step above budget racing wheels such as the Logitech G923 and Thrustmaster T150.

This combination of the Thrustmaster T300RS and Ferrari SF1000 is possibly the best racing wheel for any Formula 1 fan. Not only will you have a great racing wheel for the F1 22 game, but you’ll also have a replica Ferrari F1 steering wheel to display on your shelf!

Best Budget Racing Wheel for F1 22

My final recommendation is for the best budget racing wheel for F1 22, and this is a relatively easy category to decide on. There are a couple of good contenders for the best budget racing wheel, including the Thrustmaster T248. But the crown has to go to the Logitech G923.

Logitech G923

Logitech has mastered the art of producing a high-quality sim racing wheel on a budget, and the G923 is no exception. The Logitech G923 is an evolution of the much-loved G29 and G920 racing wheels that were released a few years ago.

The aim for Logitech when creating the G923 was to create a racing wheel that was widely compatible with the next generation of consoles while improving on their tried and trusted sim racing wheel formula.

The G923 features a host of upgrades over the older G29 and G920. These upgrades include the addition of a rotary dial on the Xbox version of the G923. Then there is the addition of Trueforce technology.

Trueforce is a vibration technology that allows the steering wheel itself to vibrate independently of the force feedback motor. This can simulate the ambient vibrations you would feel if you were sitting in a real Formula 1 car. As you rev the engine, the vibrations in the steering wheel increase.

While Trueforce isn’t a game-changer by any means, it does go towards creating a more immersive F1 experience.
