Danish sim racing brand Asetek Sim Sports has announced the latest quick release adapter in its growing ecosystem. This QR adapter allows you to use an Asetek steering wheel with any wheel base from any brand.

Previously, Asetek released the Invicta QR Adapter, which allowed you to use any third-party steering wheels with an Asetek wheelbase. This new third-party wheel base QR adapter completes the Asetek open ecosystem.

What is the Asetek 3rd Party Wheelbase QR Adapter?

The Asetek 3rd Party Wheelbase QR Adapter features the Asetek quick release system on one side, and a series of bolt patterns on the other. This adapter also includes an outgoing USB data cable that sends both power and data to and from your Asetek steering wheel.

This configuration allows you to hard mount this Asetek QR adapter to any quick release hub that you are using with your current wheel base. This could be a Fanatec Podium Hub, a Simucube quick release kit, a MOZA QR Adapter, or any other quick release.

With this Asetek QR Adapter mounted to the quick release on your wheel base, you can then simply slide your Asetek steering wheel onto the quick release adapter as you would normally. As soon as your Asetek wheel clicks into place on the quick release, it will power up thanks to the data cable (which needs to be connected to your PC), and both your wheel base and Asetek steering wheel will function normally.

How much does this third-party wheelbase QR adapter cost?

The Asetek 3rd Party Wheelbase QR Adapter costs €149.99 or $119.99. This price includes the quick release adapter and the cable that connects the adapter to your PC.

Which wheel bases is this Asetek QR Adapter compatible with?

Because all of the electronics included with this third-party QR adapter are self-contained, there is no reliance on the wheel base to pass any power or data to the Asetek steering wheel. This allows you to use this QR adapter with any wheel base from any brand.

On the rear of this QR adapter are a range of pre-drilled mounting holes. These include a 70mm PCD along with a 50.8mm mounting pattern. These pre-drilled holes allow this adapter to be mounted to almost all quick releases from brands, including Simucube, MOZA Racing, Fanatec and more.

Which Asetek steering wheels can be used with this QR Adapter?

Thanks to the release of its button boxes and wheel hubs, Asetek has grown its steering wheel lineup. This lineup currently gives sim racers 14 different steering wheel combinations, and it is rumoured that Asetek plans to release an Invicta Formula wheel at some point in the future.

All of these Asetek steering wheels and button boxes can be used with the Third-party Wheelbase QR Adapter. Each steering wheel clicks onto the quick release by pulling the tab on the steering wheel and slotting it into place.

How to use an Asetek steering wheel with any wheel base?

You’ll require a few elements to start using the Asetek 3rd Party Wheel base QR Adapter. These include the below hardware;

  • Asetek steering wheel: This QR adapter is designed to be used with any Asetek steering wheel, so ensure you have your chosen steering wheel to hand.
  • Asetek 3rd Party QR Adapter: You will need the Asetek QR adapter itself, which acts as the hub for your steering wheel to attach to.
  • Any wheel base: You can use any wheel base of your choosing.
  • A QR adapter for your wheel base: The final piece of the puzzle is a QR adapter for your wheel base. This is the adapter that you mount the Asetek QR adapter to.

With all of the elements ready, follow our instructions below on how to mount your Asetek steering wheel and 3rd Party Wheelbase QR Adapter to your wheel base.

  1. Mount your Asetek QR Adapter to your chosen wheel bases adapter.
The adapter for your wheel base will look very similar to this Asetek QR Adapter. It will feature the quick release mechanism on one side and a mounting pattern on the other side. You should line up the mounting holes with the holes on the Asetek QR Adapter. Then, secure the two quick-release adapters to each other, ensuring they are tight.
  2. Connect your QR adapter to your wheel base.
You should have both quick release adapters mounted to one another now. Next, you should connect the quick release to your wheel base using the quick-release mechanism on the adapter that matches your wheel base. If you’re using a Fanatec wheel base, the QR2 simply pushes into place. The same is true with the MOZA quick release, while the Simucube quick release system slots in from above.
  3. Plug in the USB from the Asetek QR Adapter to your PC.
With the quick release mounted to your wheel base, you should connect the dangling USB cable to your PC. I recommend using a powered USB hub to ensure a constant connection.
  4. Mount your Asetek steering wheel to your QR adapter.
The final step is to slot your Asetek steering wheel onto the Asetek quick release adapter. This is done from the top while holding the Asetek quick release tab. As soon as your steering wheel is mounted, you should notice it powers on, and your PC can then recognise it. You can use Asetek’s Race Hub software to adjust your steering wheel’s lighting effects and button mapping.
