How to set up a Thrustmaster wheel in Assetto Corsa Competizione

Setting up your Thrustmaster racing wheel in Assetto Corsa Competizione is relatively simple. However, the process will change slightly depending on which console you are racing on.

The first step is to ensure that you find a Thrustmaster racing wheel that is compatible with ACC on your platform. There are a wide range of Thrustmaster racing wheels, with many only being compatible with a single console.

Use this table to see which Thrustmaster wheel is compatible with Xbox, PlayStation and PC.

  1. Mount your Thrustmaster racing wheel

Before doing anything, you should mount your Thrustmaster racing wheel. You can mount a Thrustmaster wheel to a sim rig, wheel stand or desk.

  2. Connect your racing wheel to your PC or console

Once mounted, you should next connect your Thrustmaster wheel to your console or PC. This is done via the USB cable on the rear of the wheel base. If you are racing on console, ensure your pedals are connected to your wheel base. If you are racing on PC, you can use any sim racing pedals directly connected via USB.

  3. Update your wheel base – PC only

This step is reserved for PC sim racers only. If you are racing on either Xbox or PlayStation, you can skip straight to step 4. On PC, you should download the Thrustmaster Control Panel.

The first time you start the Control Panel, you will run through the automatic calibration. Next, click the “check for update” button to run through the firmware checks.

  4. Adjust your wheel settings

Once your wheel is up to date, you can adjust the wheel settings via the Control Panel or directly on your wheel if available. Follow our recommended settings below for your specific wheel.

  5. Adjust Assetto Corsa Competizione force feedback settings

The last step is to jump into ACC and adjust the wheel settings there. Again, use the recommended settings below for your specific wheel for the best performance.

Thrustmaster Control Panel settings explained

The settings that are available to you in the Thrustmaster Control Panel vary depending on which racing wheel you have.

If you are racing with a belt-driven Thrustmaster racing wheel such as the TMX, T300RS, TS-PC or T-GT II you will have a fair few options available in the control panel. If you are sim racing with the direct drive T818, there are much fewer options available.

Below is a brief explanation of all Thrustmaster control panel settings.

Overall strength of all forces
This setting is your overall force feedback strength setting. The higher this is set to, the stronger your force feedback will be. You may want to reduce this to eliminate any clipping, or to reduce the power of more powerful racing wheels.

Constant
This setting ensures that constant forces are kept the same. If you experience a continuous force such as g-force while cornering, this setting will make sure there isn’t any fluctuation in the force you are feeling.

Periodic
This setting adjusts periodic forces and how they merge together. This should ideally be set at 100% in most scenarios.

Spring
This setting will adjust how hard the wheel wants to self-center as you rotate it. The force will increase, the further you rotate the wheel. It can also be used to dictate negative forces, which can be felt when correcting oversteer or drifting.

Damper
The damper will affect how your wheel will feel at differing speeds. This will add weight to your steering wheel during certain scenarios which change depending on friction and speed.

Auto-center settings
This setting adjusts the auto-centering effect but should be set to be controlled via the game.

Assetto Corsa Competizione force feedback settings explained

Below is an overview of all of the wheel settings within ACC.

Gain

The gain setting in ACC is an overall strength setting. Having this set to 100% will allow your wheel to use the maximum amount of torque on offer. Lowering this will reduce the overall strength and is only really recommended to avoid any force feedback clipping.

Minimum Force

The minimum force setting should normally be left at 0%. It is designed to enhance the overall minimum force of your wheel by a set multiple. For example, at 100%, it would be boosting the minimum force of your wheel by 100%.

Damper

The damper setting should also be left at 0% in most cases. This works in the same way as minimum force and will boost the overall dampening of your wheel.

Dynamic Damping

The dynamic damping setting adjusts the variation in the damping at different speeds. For example, when your car is stationary, your steering wheel will feel heavier to turn. Whilst at higher speeds, it will feel lighter.

Road Effects

The road effects again act as a boost to your base wheel settings. This option changes how the differences in road surfaces feel. Much like the minimum force and damper setting, we’d recommend leaving this at 0 and controlling it via the Pit House software instead.

Frequency

The frequency dictates the frequency that your wheel base updates at. At 400Hz it will update 400 times each second.

Steer Lock

This setting should match the steering lock that you set in Pit House.
