iRacing » The Best GT3 Car in iRacing
I run through the best GT3 cars in iRacing in 2022. There are a large selection of GT3 cars in iRacing. Here I'll show you which car is quickest, which one appears in the most series, and which you should buy.

The best GT3 car in iRacing has to be well balanced, responsive and fast around most tracks. It also has to appear in a good number of series across a range of license classes. The BMW M4 GT3 meets all of those criteria making it the best GT3 car in iRacing. Its turbocharged engine also provides a large performance boost at high altitude tracks such as Interlagos.
When it comes to our top pick for the best GT3 car in iRacing, the top spot is between two cars. Both the BMW M4 GT3, and the Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo are incredibly good choices.
Both cars feature in more series than any other GT3 car in iRacing.
The Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo has its own series in D class. This is an extremely popular series due to it being the only GT3 series to feature in D class. It gives players their first option to race GT3 cars.
The BMW M4 GT3 also gets its own series in the form of the BMW Sim GT Cup. This is also a D class series but has a focus on endurance racing. There are only 10 events that are spaced throughout a full calendar year. This makes a fantastic series to participate in alongside your regular GT3 series.
If we were to pick a single car as the best GT3 car in iRacing, it would have to go to the BMW M4 GT3.
The M4 GT3 is without a doubt one of the nicest cars to drive. It doesn’t feel as heavy as some cars like the Mercedes AMG GT3, instead, it feels responsive while feeling planted to the track.
There is a good amount of front end, allowing you to get the nose tucked and turned into a corner nicely. With the engine over the front of the car, it isn’t quite as responsive as cars such as the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO and Ferrari 488.
But if you utilise trail braking on corner entry you can really get the front of the car turned in nicely. On the corner exit, you can really accelerate hard without much worry of the back end stepping out on you. This is surprising as the road-legal BMW M4 can be quite a handful to control!
The BMW M4 GT3 utilises a straight six, turbo-charged engine, although it is a little quieter than some of the other GT3 cars. There are some nice crackles on the overrun which do sound lovely, especially on the exterior replay cameras.
With the BMW M4 GT3 chosen as our top GT3 car in iRacing, that pushes the Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo into our second spot.
The 488 GT3 Evo is the second iteration of the Ferrari 488 GT3 to make it into iRacing. This latest version increases the overall downforce that the car has, making it slightly easier to drive over the original legacy car.
That’s not to say the first iteration was hard to drive, as it certainly wasn’t. The original car had a great balance, allowing you to navigate tracks with relative ease. And this latest Evo variant simply improves the overall balance and handling.
With the slight increase in aerodynamic downforce, the top speed has reduced a little bit. That means that the 488 GT3 Evo isn’t quite as fast as the BMW M4 GT3 in a straight line. Despite this, it makes up lap time in the corners.
Unlike the BMW M4 GT3 which can be a little sluggish on corner entry unless trail braking correctly. The Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo is incredibly agile. With the engine placement being closer to the rear axle, this allows the car to feel incredibly responsive.
You will have to ensure that you manage your tyres well throughout a race in any of the GT3 series in iRacing. The 488 Evo is prone to locking a wheel under braking which can cause additional tyre wear.
With all of the changes that were made to this second generation of 488 GT3, this Ferrari is one of the most popular GT3 cars in iRacing. It’s drivability combined with it being used in more series than any other GT3 car makes it a fantastic option.
If you ask any GT3 racer in iRacing to choose their top 3 or 4 GT3 cars, there are a few cars that would make regular appearances. The Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) and the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO are both rated as some of the best GT3 cars in iRacing.
The Lamborghini is often seen as a top 3 pick for GT3 racing due to it essentially being a better version of the Audi R8 LMS. It uses the same chassis platform as the R8 but performs a little better since recent BoP (Balance of Performance) updates.
The Lamborghini is slightly harder to drive than both the BMW M4 and the Ferrari 488. IT has a tendency to oversteer more and is a little trickier to control on the corner exit. However, the speed that you can take into corners is incredible.
The Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) is a very similar story. The engine in the Porsche is right at the back which makes it prone to lift-off oversteer. This makes it a slightly trickier car to drive hard than others in this list. But once you unlock its performance, the Porsche 911 is one of the fastest GT3 cars in iRacing.
Finally, I wanted to give a notable mention to the newly added Mercedes AMG GT3 Evo 2020. This AMG GT3 Evo has been brought into iRacing to replace the older AMG GT3. It has only been added in Season 3 2022, so we haven’t had a full season to test it out.
However, the previous Mercedes AMG GT3 was always one of the most popular GT3 cars in iRacing. This gives us high hopes for this new iteration.
Most of the GT3 cars in iRacing appear in the same series. However, some GT3 cars aren’t usable in some multi-class series, while others have their own fixed series. Below is a list of every GT3 car in iRacing along with how many series each one is used in.
When it comes to GT3 racing in iRacing, there are a few characteristics that you should be after. GT3 cars are heavily modified versions of road-going supercars.
GT3 cars feature a lot of electronics such as ABS (anti-lock brakes) and traction control. These electronics combine with huge aerodynamic wings and splitters to make GT3 cars incredibly fun to drive.
When you first jump into a GT3 car in iRacing, it may feel relatively easy to drive. In some cases, they can be easier to jump in and drive than some of the slower cars. The electronics help prevent you from spinning or locking your wheels under braking.
However, to race GT3 cars fast, you’ll often need to reduce some of the electronic assistance and attack the track hard. In these scenarios, you’ll want your car to be responsive and well balanced.
You should look to avoid cars that feel either too heavy at the front of the car. This will make your car feel sluggish and can prevent you from getting the car turned into a corner efficiently.
You’ll also want to avoid cars that feel light on the rear end. Cars that don’t feel planted at the back of the car can feel unstable to drive. When you start to push these cars hard, it can be much easier to lose control than in some more balanced cars.
Cars with almost perfect balance include the Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo, and the BMW M4 GT3. The Ferrari 488 in particular feels incredibly intuitive to race with. It’s well balanced and won’t do anything too unpredictable.
The BMW M4 GT3 on the other hand is a little heavier at the front end due to its heavy engine over the front axle. But it is equally as well balanced as the Ferrari 488, and has fantastic straight-line speed.
There are a total of 13 GT3 cars in iRacing. That includes the latest GT3 car, the Mercedes AMG GT3 2020 that was added in Season 3 2022.
iRacing often runs promotional codes giving reduced price memberships. These normally apply to new members only, but sometimes you can pick up a renewal code, so it’s always worth checking.
