Sim Racing Fuel Calculator
Quickly calculate the correct fuel load for a race in any sim racing game including ACC, iRacing, Assetto Corsa Evo, AMS2 and others. Simply enter your fuel per lap, race distance and fuel tank capacity to see how many pit stops are required and what your starting fuel should be.
Calculator Notes: Fill out the calculator above to see your estimated fuel usage throughout a race, along with how many times you will need to pit. The safe fuel estimate adds an additional 2 laps of fuel to your total. This is ideal if you plan on running a formation lap or cool down lap, or if you are estimating higher fuel usage during a

How to use our fuel calculator
Our sim racing fuel calculator with pit stops is incredibly simple and easy to use. To use this calculator in any sim racing game, you need to know a few numbers which can all be found in game. Below is an explanation of how our sim racing fuel calculator works, and how each input affects the calculation.
Race Time
Your race time is the entire time of your race or session. We have factored in an additional lap to our fuel estimate calculations as most races include an additional lap at the end of a timed race.
Average Lap Time
After running a few laps in practice or qualifying, you'll know your average lap time. This affects how many laps you're expected to complete during a race. Try to be as accurate as possible.
Your Fuel Usage Per Lap
In most racing sims including Assetto Corsa Competizione and iRacing, you can see your average fuel usage per lap. This can be found on your car's in-game DDU, through the HUD or setup menu.
Your Car's Fuel Tank Capacity
Enter your car's fuel capacity. This is important in calculating how many pitstops you'll need. This is normally available during the car setup screen, and available under race strategy or fuel strategy.
What is a sim racing fuel calculator?
The race fuel calculator above is designed to ensure you never run out of fuel in a race again. By entering a few easy-to-find values, you’ll be able to quickly calculate your race fuel along with how many times you’ll need to pit.
You can use our fuel calculator with any sim racing game, using any car with any track. All you need to know is your average lap time, average fuel consumption per lap and the race duration.
- Enter the total race time.
This is the complete race duration length. We have automatically calculated to add an additional lap of fuel for the final lap which elongates a sim race past its race time. You can use both the hours and minutes input boxes or just the minutes input box. For example, a 70-minute race could be input as 1 hour and 10 minutes, or as 70 minutes.
- Set a few laps to find your average lap time.
During the practice or qualifying session, set a few benchmark laps. Keep lapping until you feel comfortable in your pace, and use the average lap time from this run to input into the average lap time input box. Try to be realistic with this lap time, as faster laps will result in higher fuel calculations as you will be able to complete more laps during a race. Also, using a slower lap time can cause you to run out of fuel at the end of the race. Again, use both the minute and seconds input boxes to enter the correct lap time.
- Enter your average fuel consumption.
Most racing sims including Assetto Corsa Competizione and iRacing show your average fuel usage after you have completed a few laps. This value can often be found in the car setup screen under the fuel or pit strategy section. If you are racing in a game that doesn’t show your average fuel usage, you may still be able to see your consumption on the in-game car’s dashboard. Toggle through the DDU screens to find the average fuel consumption per lap.
- Enter your car’s fuel capacity.
To calculate how many pit stops you’ll need during a race, you will need to enter your fuel capacity. This can often be found in your car setup screen. If it isn’t, you can always set your pit strategy to fill your fuel tank, then in game, you can see your fuel capacity using the car’s in-game DDU. Failing either of these, you could do a little research and find the car’s fuel capacity online or using an in-game car inspection or garage tool.
- Copy the fuel estimate into your game.
With the calculation complete, you can go ahead and copy the starting fuel amount into your sim racing game. If our calculator is estimating 1 or more pit stops, you should set your starting fuel load to maximum. We have also included a safe fuel estimate, which adds an extra 2 laps to the calculation. This can be helpful if you want to veer on the side of caution or if you are running a formation or cooldown lap.
Frequently asked questions about calculating fuel in sim racing
Below are a range of FAQs, answering some of the most frequent questions on how to use our sim racing fuel estimator calculator.
Our estimated fuel calculator for sim racing is universal and is compatible with almost all sim racing games. It works with Assetto Corsa Competizione, Assetto Corsa, AC Evo, rFactor, Automobilista 2, iRacing and most other sims. If you know how long your race will be, your estimated fuel usage per lap and your average lap time, you can use this fuel estimator.
Many sims, such as Assetto Corsa Competizione, will tell you your average fuel consumption per lap in the car setup screen. In ACC, this can be found in the fuel & strategy screen. You can also often find the average fuel consumption on your HUD or in-game dashboard. If you are racing a GT car in a game such as iRacing or ACC, you can see your fuel usage per lap on the DDU.
We have created the safe fuel estimate into our calculator to give you a safe fuel load. This adds an additional 2 laps of fuel onto the calculation which can be a safety net if you use slightly more fuel than predicted. The safe fuel estimate can also be used if you are planning to complete a formation lap or cool down lap at the end of your race.
