According to the Steam charts for racing games, Forza Horizon 5 is one of the most popular racing games, putting it just behind BeamNG.drive and, surprisingly, Forza Horizon 4. While the Horizon series is a mixture of arcade and simulation physics, one of the best ways to enjoy the Mexican landscape is driving Horizon with a racing wheel.

Steam Charts Racing Games

Most racing wheels, including those from popular brands such as Logitech, Fanatec, and more, are supported in Forza Horizon 4 and 5. However, MOZA Racing is strangely missing from all Forza Horizon 5 compatibility lists. This is because MOZA wheels require a unique configuration to work with Forza games.

In this tutorial guide, I’ll show you how to correctly set up any MOZA Racing wheel to work perfectly in Forza Horizon 5 (or Horizon 4).

Do MOZA Racing wheels work in Forza Horizon 5?

All current-generation MOZA Racing wheels work with Forza Horizon 5; however, they need a slightly more complex configuration compared to other games. You will see a list of games in MOZA’s Pit House software, and this list includes Forza Horizon 4 and 5.

MOZA Pit House Forza Horizon configuration

This game tile in the sidebar of Pit House can be used to launch Forza Horizon directly from the Pit House app and is also used to set the file path so Pit House can find the game install location.

Most games can be automatically configured to work with MOZA wheels by simply clicking the “config” button. However, you will need to complete a manual set-up process with all Forza games to get full functionality from your racing wheel.

How to set up a MOZA wheel with Forza Horizon

I am now going to show you our step-by-step tutorial on how to configure your MOZA wheel to work with Forza Horizon 5. There are two ways of setting up your wheel to be compatible and I’ll run through both below.

Method 1: Using MOZA’s configuration files

This is the easiest of the two methods of setting up your wheel to work in Forza Horizon 5.

  1. Head over to MOZA’s support website, scroll to the very bottom, and download the file called “Forza Horizon 5_MOZA.rar. This will include configuration files for all MOZA wheels.
  2. Locate the file called “wheeltunablesettingspc.zip” in your Forza Horizon 5 install location. The path should be similar to the path below. If you have installed Horizon 5 on Steam, you can locate the install location easily by right clicking the game in your library, and selecting “Manage > Browse local files”.
    This PC > Installation folder > Forza Horizon 5 > Content > media > wheeltunablesettingspc.zip
  3. In the download MOZA folder, locate your wheel in the list. Click into its folder and find the file called “ControllerFFB-0X346E0002.ini“.
  4. Move both folders (the Forza install location, and the MOZA config downloaded files) next to each other. Then simply drag the “ControllerFFB-0X346E0002.ini” file and drop it on to the “wheeltunablesettingspc.zip” folder. This will automatically copy the file across, and allow your MOZA wheel to be recognised and work in Forza Horizon 5.

Method 2: Use vJoy to configure your MOZA wheel

The second way of connecting your MOZA wheel to Forza Horizon 5 is using an app called vJoy. This should only be used if the method above doesn’t work for you.

  1. Download and install the vJoy app. This can be found on this page on MOZA’s website.
  2. Once installed, press the windows key on your keyboard to open the search bar, and search for an app called “Configure vJoy”. Open this app.
  3. You’ll now see a host of options in the configuration screen. Change the following settings.
    • Number of buttons: 128
    • POV Hat Switch: 4 Directions
    • POVs: 1
  4. Making these changes will set vJoy up to work with your MOZA wheel. Click the apply button to save these settings.
  5. Next, head into the vJoy installation folder and find the file called “InsGuidGet.bat“. Open this file, and let it run through the configuration process. You can close it once it has finished.
  6. Next, in the same folder, run the .exe file called “Hush.exe“. This file needs to be open and running while you play Forza Horizon, otherwise your wheel will stop being recognised.
  7. The final file you need to run is “Forza Emuwheel.exe“, which can be downloaded from the same MOZA support page. When the app opens, click the start button to start mapping the buttons and inputs on your racing wheel.
  8. Now, you can start Forza Horizon 5, head into the control settings and map your inputs. The game won’t recognise your MOZA wheel initially. However, after mapping all inputs including steering and pedals, you will be able to control the game with your wheel.

As you can see, this second method is much trickier and more involved than the first method. However, it is a backup route if you cannot get your wheel working using method 1.

Adjust your Pit House settings

Whichever method you choose to set up your MOZA wheel with, I recommend heading into the Pit House app and adjusting your settings to customise your force feedback and game experience.

I would recommend using the settings below for a good baseline force feedback in Forza Horizon 5.

How to get the RPM lights working in Forza Horizon 5

After completing the steps above, your MOZA wheel will work in Forza Horizon 5. However, you’ll find that the RPM lights on your steering wheel won’t be working correctly. To fix this, you’ll need to adjust the data sent out from Forza Horizon 5. This will allow your MOZA steering wheel to read the data and display the correct rev lights.

    To configure the RPM lights in Forza Horizon 5, follow the steps below;

    1. Head into the settings from any part of the game. Then scroll down to “HUD and Gameplay”.
    2. Scroll down to the settings called “Data out”, and turn it on.
    3. Then change the Data out IP address and data out IP port to the following;
      • DATA OUT IP ADDRESS: 127.0.0.1
      • DATA OUT IP PORT: 20055
    4. Enjoy Forza Horizon 5 with working rev lights on your MOZA steering wheel.

The best MOZA wheels for Forza Horizon 5

I have two recommendations for the best MOZA Racing wheel to use with Forza Horizon 5 or 4. I have used both of these racing wheels for over a year, so I would happily recommend them.

    MOZA R12 wheel base

The first is the MOZA R12. This is in my opinion, MOZA Racing’s best direct drive wheel. It isn’t the most powerful wheel, however, it has the best strength to price ratio, and is incredibly competitively priced. The force feedback available from the MOZA R12 is incredible, and that is even truer since MOZA upgraded the R12 to feature a NexGen 3.0 force feedback algorithm.

Comparing the price of the R12 and R3, you’ll see that the MOZA R12 is only $/£100 more expensive than the R3, but offers 8Nm more peak torque. It is worth noting that the prices below only include the wheel base for the R12, whereas the R3 price is a complete bundle including a steering wheel and pedal set.

    MOZA R3 Xbox bundle

The second wheel base I’d recommend for Forza Horizon 5 is the Xbox-compatible MOZA R3. This is the only direct drive racing wheel MOZA produces that is compatible with Forza on an Xbox console. It works with both the newer Xbox Series X|S and the older Xbox One.

The R3 packs an incredible punch given its tiny form factor. It does come with a table or desk clamp included in the bundle making it very easy to mount to any surface including a sim rig. You’ll get a steering wheel and pedal set included, making it even more valuable for money.
