It has been three years since Forza Horizon 5 first hit our screens and allowed us to race around a fictional depiction of Mexico in some of the fastest and most desirable cars in the world. It’s amazing that Horizon 5 still regularly tops the Steam charts as one of the most-played racing games.
Forza Horizon has always been a more casual racing game than the Motorsport series or other racing games such as Gran Turismo 7 or Assetto Corsa. However, it can be enjoyed equally regardless of whether you use a controller or a racing wheel.
There is something special about driving around the streets and dunes of Mexico in your favourite car with a racing wheel. It is a magic that Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is trying to replicate.
All Xbox-compatible racing wheels should work with Forza Horizon 5. They will be detected as an input when you start the game with the wheel connected. On PC, more racing wheels work, including those from Fanatec, Thrustmaster, MOZA Racing and more.
In this guide, I will look at all of the racing wheels compatible with Forza Horizon 5. I’ll include the wheels that are Xbox-compatible and will work on console, as well as all of the wheels that work with the PC version of Horizon 5.
There are rumours that Forza Horizon 5 will be announced at Gamescom 2024 as compatible with PlayStation 5 consoles. If this is true, the following PlayStation racing wheels should all be compatible with Horizon 5.
Xbox sim racers have a range of racing wheels that will work with Forza Horizon 5. There aren’t as many wheels to choose from compared to if you are racing Forza Horizon 5 on a PC, but there are still some good options. These include some newer direct drive wheels, such as the Fanatec ClubSport DD and the MOZA Racing R3.
Sim racers using a PC have the largest selection of racing wheels and hardware available. This is because every racing wheel and pedal set is compatible with PC, and each piece of sim racing hardware can be directly connected to a PC via USB.
This allows sim racers to choose from more premium direct drive wheels such as those from Asetek and Simucube, as well as being able to use MOZA Racing’s entire product range. Find out how to get a MOZA racing wheel working with Forza Horizon 5 in our step-by-step tutorial guide.
The Forza Horizon series is a game that is widely embraced with a controller. The more open world, casual style of gameplay lends itself nicely to relaxing on a couch and driving with a controller. On both Xbox and PC, you can use most pads or controllers with Forza, including third-party controllers from brands such as Thrustmaster or Corsair.

MOZA Racing wheels can work in Forza Horizon 5, although they do require a little extra setup. We have written a complete guide on how to set up any MOZA wheel with Forza Horizon 5, including the Xbox-compatible MOZA R3 wheel.
The MOZA R3 is the wheel I would recommend when playing Forza Horizon 5. It is compatible on both Xbox and PC, making it perfect for playing on either platform. It packs a mighty punch from its tiny chassis, producing up to 3.9Nm of peak torque. And it is one of the cheapest direct drive racing wheels available.
All current generation Fanatec racing wheels are compatible with Forza Horizon 5 on PC. That includes the new ClubSport DD wheels as well as the older CSL DD and GT DD Pro racing wheels.
I recommend the ClubSport DD as the best Fanatec wheel for Forza Horizon 5. It is an Xbox-compatible direct drive racing wheel that creates 12Nm of peak torque. Fanatec introduced a range of new technology with the ClubSport DD and DD+, including a new force feedback algorithm to improve detail, smoothness, and response time.
Logitech has been a long time gaming and sim racing brand, often releasing budget-friendly racing wheels. Their current G923 is one of the best budget wheels you can currently buy, and holds up incredibly well despite being around for a good number of years.
Thrustmaster has a large range of different sim racing wheels, with most compatible with Forza Horizon 5. There are some wheels including the T-GT II that is only compatible with PS5 and PC, meaning it cannot be used to play Horizon 5 on an Xbox console.

While Forza Horizon 5 combines both simulation and arcade, you can play the entire game with a racing wheel. Wheels from Logitech, MOZA Racing, Fanatec and more are compatible with Horizon 5 on Xbox and PC.
Using a racing wheel will make Forza Horizon 5 more immersive and realistic. You can also change a variety of wheel and force feedback settings to enhance the realism even further.
