The F1 games by Codemasters have always traditionally done a relatively poor job at replicating a realistic T-cam angle. In this guide, I’ll show you how to replicate the real life T-cam angle in game.

Changing the T-cam angle away from real life is partially a design choice by Codemasters. As the real T-cams that are used in Formula 1 are actually set at an angle which isn’t optimal to drive from.

I’ll show you an example below. Notice how onboard with the real camera, the horizon line is so high up the screen. If we translate this exactly in to F1 2020, your eyes will be looking towards the top of your screen.

This isn’t ideal as this area of the screen is reserved for on screen graphics such as pit limiter speeds, and practice program graphics.

So in my adaptation of a realistic T-cam, I have actually adjusted the angle so the horizon line is closer to the center of the screen.

I like to try and have the most realistic racing experience I can when racing on F1 2020 and setting up the camera to mimic what we see every weekend adds another layer of authenticity to the game.

If you fancy watching our video explaining our camera settings, you can do so below.

Jumping in to the settings themselves. If I pull up my camera settings menu, you will see that the majority of the work has been done in raising the camera, and lowering the angle that the camera is facing.

If you watch real world on board footage from an F1 car, you will notice how low the camera points down. You can see this by looking at the horizon line, where the track meets the sky.

In real world footage, the horizon line sits very high up the screen. You can mimic this if you want to replicate the real world camera, by setting your camera angle to -1. However, if you do this you find that some of the on-screen HUD which pops up in the middle of the screen actually blocks the view of the track in front of you.

For example, when you are running the practice programs, there is a very prominent on screen graphic that sits slap bang in the middle of the screen. If you run an angle of -1, this will actually block the track, meaning you can’t easily see whats in front of you.

You can adjust your HUD if you like, to move the on screen graphics higher up the screen, but a better way to avoid this, is to lower the angle to -0.6. This still gives us enough of an angle to get close to the real world camera, yet also allows us to see the track in front of us during all scenarios.

Running through a few of the other settings. We have slightly adjusted every option including the camera offsets. We have moved the camera slightly higher than default, as well as moving it a little further back and more to the left of the car.

This allows us to see a little more of the drivers helmet, while not blocking the steering wheel display, and on some cars you can also see the tops of the side-pods, just like in real world footage.

We’ve also adjusted the clipping plane so you don’t get any weird camera clipping and adjusted the mirror angle so we can see directly behind us.

See you on track.
