Coming away from the streets of Monaco, Spain is a refreshing circuit to race at. Its wide, fast and flowing, and lets you really attack every sector. The removal of the final chicane really elevates this circuits enjoyment, and provides an extremely quick final sector, making overtakes into turn 1 much more likely.
This is a track where you really want good initial bite on your turn in, as you can lose a lot of lap time through the longer corners at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya if you have too much understeer.

Kicking off this setup, I’ve gone for an aero of 31 and 29. This prioritises the front of the car, while also ensuring the rear has enough downforce to stay planted through the long corners such as turn 4. There isn’t too much of a wing gap here, however, I’ve ensured we do have enough mechanical grip and rotation with the rest of the setup to ensure understeer isn’t an issue.
That all starts with the transmission, with the off throttle diff set low at just 35%. This will let the car pivot and rotate better at slower speed, making up for the high rear wing. Then, I’ve gone with an on throttle differential of 70%. This is about right, as corners such as 5, 7 and 10 can really test your rear traction. So we don’t want to push this too high.
With the geometry, you’ve guessed it. I have it all set to the left once again.
As I mentioned, Spain rewards responsiveness, and our suspension is set up to deliver this. Go with 41 and 3, followed by 10 and 21 on the anti roll bars. This juggles stability and responsiveness well, while ensuring there isn’t too much lean on the car through the longer corners where the ARB’s can give up on you. Follow this with a ride height of 20 and 47.
For the brake setup. I’ve gone with 54% once again, similar to our Monaco setup. There isn’t much need to run it higher, as most of the braking zones are short and sweet, with even turn 1 not being too much of a heavy stop. Then go with 100% brake pressure.
Finally, tyre wear is a huge problem at Spain, especially at the rear of the car. I’ve set all pressures to maximum to minimise wear as much as possible. However, this will be one area where you’ll need to focus on while driving during a race. Staying smooth, not aggressive on the throttle, and not following cars too closely will all help keep temperatures down.
And that will complete our Spain car setup. I really enjoy this track, and hope to see it again in future seasons of Formula 1 beyond next year. As with many car setups, you may need to lower the overall aero setup a touch if the AI are too dominant on the straights, as they tend to be. Although, having tested this setup through a race around Spain, you should be OK.
If you’re racing online in a league, or trying to put in the fastest laps possible, check out our pro F1 25 setups. They run a higher downforce setup, with more rotation with a focus on higher minimum corner speeds.
Let me know your thoughts on this setup and how you find it during a race. Remember, this isn’t a time trial setup, and is designed specifically for races, and has been created using a racing wheel.
