Using the cockpit camera in F1 25 is one way to really ramp up your immersion in this year’s Formula 1 game. It positions you behind the wheel, sunk into the cockpit, just like a real-world Formula 1 driver. With a few setting changes to the cockpit camera, we can improve the look and feel of driving an F1 car from the cockpit in F1 25.
In this guide, I’ll run through my recommended cockpit camera settings, and use the real-world helmet camera as a guide on how to configure our cockpit camera.
As sim racers and Formula 1 fans, the closest we can currently get to experience what it feels like to be behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car is the helmet camera during F1 broadcasts. This camera is mounted inside each driver’s helmet, just off to one side, and provides a good indication of what a Formula 1 driver can see out of the cockpit.
We can use this helmet camera to configure the cockpit camera settings in F1 25. We do have to adjust for the camera being offset to one side, however, we get a lot of crucial information such as the height of the driver’s eye level, and how much of the car and track they can see.
Below is an image from Max Verstappen’s helmet camera at the Chinese Grand Prix.
We can see from this that the visibility out of the cockpit is actually reasonably good. Max can see the tops of both tyres, and part way down the nose of the car. He also has a good view of the steering wheel which is always partially in shot.
We can use this helmet cam, and other shots from different drivers to create our own cockpit camera settings in F1 25.
A few of the key adjustments I have made is to move the camera closer to the steering wheel which hides the bottom half of the wheel, just like in the helmet camera image. This also brings more of the track into view, making it slightly easier to drive and hit every corner apex.
I’ve also adjusted the field of view to narrow the image, and changed the angle and offsets to position the camera exactly where it best replicates the real-world helmet cam.
Below are the settings that I’d recommend if you want to replicate a real-world drivers view from the cockpit of an F1 car.
Setting | Value |
---|---|
Field of View | -11 |
Offset Lateral | 0 |
Offset Horizontal | 4 |
Offset Vertical | 5 |
Angle | -9 |
Near Clip Plane | 0 |
Mirror Angle | 0 |
Camera Shake | 0 |
Camera Movement | 10 |
Look to Apex Limit | 10 |
Halo Column | On |
While replicating the real-world cockpit camera is great for immersion, it does pose some issues while racing on a regular monitor. It limits what we can see around us due to the narrow field of view and closely cropped perspective. This makes it hard to see cars driving alongside us. It also hides the mirrors completely so you can’t see any cars approaching from the rear.
To fix these issues, I’d recommend making some changes to the realistic cockpit camera, to end up with a middle-ground compromise. These settings open the camera up to allow us to see more of what is happening around us, while letting us see our mirrors if you’re racing on an ultrawide monitor.
Setting | Value |
---|---|
Field of View | -4 |
Offset Lateral | 0 |
Offset Horizontal | 4 |
Offset Vertical | 5 |
Angle | -9 |
Near Clip Plane | 0 |
Mirror Angle | 0 |
Camera Shake | 0 |
Camera Movement | 10 |
Look to Apex Limit | 5 |
Halo Column | Off |
The halo column in F1 25’s cockpit camera view can obstruct your visibility, especially when racing on a single monitor. While disabling the halo pillar improves your field of view and lets you see more of the track, it does reduce realism and immersion.
Turning off the halo column is entirely a personal preference. If you prioritise clearer on-track visibility, especially in competitive racing, disabling it is recommended. However, for those aiming for a fully realistic Formula 1 experience, keeping the halo column enabled helps maintain authenticity.
To gain the best advantage you can on track in F1 25, regardless of which camera angle you use. An optimised car setup can make a huge difference. Our F1 25 Pro setups provides Esports quality setups, created by some of the fastest drivers in the PSGL. Each track has multiple setups to choose from, as well as optimised race and qualifying strategies to help you maximise every race weekend.

The most realistic F1 25 cockpit camera settings include a low field of view (FOV), centered camera angle, minimal camera movement, and a high camera height. Adjust settings like FOV, camera angle, and camera shake for a true-to-life driving experience.
Go to Settings > Camera Customization > Cockpit Camera in F1 25. From there, you can tweak FOV, camera height, lateral offset, angle, and shake settings to suit your preference or replicate a realistic F1 driver’s view.
A FOV (Field of View) setting around -10 is generally recommended for realism in F1 25. This mimics the narrower, tunnel-like view seen in real Formula 1 cockpits and enhances the sense of speed and spatial awareness.
For the most realistic cockpit experience in F1 25, it’s best to set camera shake and movement to low or off. While it adds immersion, excessive movement can distort your vision and reduce control at high speeds.
