Hitting the streets of Canada around the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is always good fun. The really fast chicanes and the tricky switchback first corner sequence allow for really good and hard racing. As with most circuits, there is one point of the track which causes setup issues, and that is the really long straight.

In a similar vein to Imola, Canada is best attacked with a higher downforce car setup. However, thanks to that long straight, and the AI’s tendency to run lower downforce setups, we do have to lower the overall aero away from the optimal point to be competitive during AI races.

If, however, you are going for the fastest car setup possible across a single lap, or a competitive league race. Our pro Canada setups will be much more up your street. They feature higher downforce setups that result in faster overall lap times, compared to this setup. Go ahead and check them out if you feel this setup is too low downforce.

Aero setup

Talking about aero levels, I have set mine to 19 and 18 for the front and rear wings respectively. This is much lower than I’d like ideally, but is needed to be able to contend for overtakes down the back straight. The fairly small wing gap also ensures that the rear of the car remains stable in places where its really tested such as turns 2, 6 and 9.

Transmission setup

With the transmission setup, I have the on throttle set reasonably low at 65%. This helps through the heavy traction zones. Even though the circuit is pretty fast, the rear can get away from you at a good number of corners. Lowering the on throttle diff will give you slightly more control and traction out of these tricky spots.

Then, I have the off throttle set to 35% to help the car rotate into corners. This makes up a little bit for the higher rear aero setup.

Suspension geometry setup

With the geometry, you’ve guessed it. I have it all set to the left once again.

Suspension setup

With the suspension setup, I’ve gone for 28 and 4, and 13 and 21 on the anti-roll bars. This is a relatively universal apporoach for many faster circuits, and helps the rear stay planted during tricky corners. Set the ride height to 20 and 50.

Brake setup

Much like the last two circuits, I have the bias set to just 54%. We don’t want to go too high with this, as it can result in some initial corner entry understeer, which we want to avoid. I would increase this manually heading into the hairpin and final corners, before reducing it back to 54% after turn 2. Round out the brake setup with 100% pressure.

Tyre setup

Partially due to the long back straight, the front tyres can struggle to get up to temperature. I have set the pressures at 26.9psi to help keep them in the best window, while setting the rear pressures to 25.5psi for a bit more temperature management.

Conclusion

That completes this years Canada car setup. This is a track that is very similar to Imola in many ways, so its no surprise that other than the lower aero, the setups are very similar. The fast corners will keep you on your toes as the rear of the car can get away from you. However, we’ve combatted a lot of that tendency with this setup.

If you’re racing online in a league, or trying to put in the fastest laps possible, check out our pro F1 25 setups. They run a higher downforce setup, with more rotation with a focus on higher minimum corner speeds.

Let me know your thoughts on this setup and how you find it during a race. Remember, this isn’t a time trial setup, and is designed specifically for races, and has been created using a racing wheel.
