Both Assetto Corsa and Assetto Corsa Competizione have been known to suffer from wheel shaking issues. This problem can occur when you are stationary with the engine running, or when travelling at slow speeds.

You will notice that even when applying no steering input, your wheel will shake and vibrate pretty unnaturally. This issue isn’t a realistic portrayal of how a steering wheel should behave and isn’t present in other racing sims.

In this step-by-step tutorial guide, I’ll show you how to fix your wheel shaking in Assetto Corsa.

Why do racing wheels shake in Assetto Corsa?

Assetto Corsa and ACC are notorious for racing wheels shaking uncontrollably, and the reason remains a mystery even today. There are ways of eliminating this shaking, but the initial cause is a bit of a strange one.

Many attribute the shaking to overly strong force feedback or FFB clipping, although this isn’t really the case. Instead, enabling some options inside of Assetto Corsa’s Content Manager, or using custom LUT’s which apply custom wheel settings.

Below is a great example of this wheel shaking issue from Reddit user PopItNow.

Do you need to use a custom LUT to fix the wheel shaking?

Many recommend using custom LUT (look up tables) to fix the wheel shaking issue. LUTs can be applied to the Assetto Corsa settings to completely change how your wheel’s force feedback feels. These can be generated by yourself using a LUT generator, or you can use someone else’s LUT.

LUT’s are a great tool to improve how your force feedback feels, giving you different settings for different styles of driving. However, you do not need a custom LUT to fix the Assetto Corsa wheel shaking issue. We can apply a few settings changes to fix this, which is a much simpler solution.

Which racing wheels are affected by this issue?

The issue of wheels shaking in Assetto Corsa predominantly affects Logitech racing wheels. All Logitech wheels including the newest G923 as well as older G29 and G27 wheels can encounter this issue. It isn’t limited to just Logitech racing wheels, as users have reported similar problems with Thrustmaster and Fanatec wheels.

How to stop a steering wheel from shaking or rocking in Assetto Corsa

This fix is only accessible for those playing Assetto Corsa on PC, with Content Manager installed. If you don’t have Content Manager, I’d recommend installing it. It’s a free mod that completely overhauls the dated Assetto Corsa UI and dashboard, and allows for additional settings to be tweaked and mods to easily be installed.

With Content Manager installed and running, follow the steps below to fix wheel shaking in Assetto Corsa.

  1. Head into Content Manager, and into the settings tab in the top right.
  2. Navigate to the controls sub-menu in the Assetto Corsa settings.
  3. Make sure you have the input method set to wheel.
  4. Then select the force feedback settings on the right of the screen.
  5. On the right of the screen, you will see an Experimental heading.
  6. Select the “Unlock experimental options” option.
  7. Then, also tick the “Gyroscopic effect” option.
  8. Finally, reduce both “Damper gain” and “Minimum damper level” to 0%.

Then head over to the “FFB Tweaks” setting menu which can be found in the left column inside the Custom Shaders Patch settings. CSP is another free mod that transforms a range of Assetto Corsa’s graphics, physics and settings. Read our guide on how to install CSP for Assetto Corsa.

  1. Enable the “More physically accurate gyro implementation“, setting it to active.
  2. Under the additional postprocessing heading, change “Range compression” to 150%.
  3. Then enable the “Range compression assist” setting.
Assetto Corsa Fix Wheel Shaking Recommended Settings

I recommend the force feedback settings below to help with additional shaking that can be encountered at certain parts of the track, such as kerb strikes and tyre slip.

  • Gain: 95%
  • Filter: 0%
  • Minimum force: 0%
  • Kerb effects: 20%
  • Road effects: 20%
  • Slip effect: 10%
  • ABS effect: 20%

With these settings, the force feedback will remain responsive, giving you the sensations of weight and feedback from your wheel. However, the shaking that is normally present when you are stationary with the engine running, or travelling at slow speed will be gone.
