Low Fuel Motorsports or LFM as its known, is the largest competitive sim racing platform outside of iRacing. If you are striving to compete against other sim racers in a structured format, LFM has you covered. It features a seasonal calendar along with license levels and leagues, providing everything you need to start sim racing online.

LFM is compatible with a range of sim racing titles including Assetto Corsa, ACC and Automobilista 2. In this guide, I’m going to show you how to set up LFM with Assetto Corsa.

How to play Assetto Corsa using LFM

Despite its age and Assetto Corsa Evo recently releasing, many sim racers still view the original Assetto Corsa as the best sim racing title around. Because of this, it is still one of the most popular sim racing titles on Steam. Low Fuel Motorsports, the leading online competitive sim racing platform outside of iRacing, fully acknowledges Assetto Corsa’s popularity by featuring a range of different Assetto Corsa leagues on its platform.

What is LFM (Low Fuel Motorsport)

If you’ve made it this far, you’re probably aware of what Low Fuel Motorsport is, however, for those new to LFM and sim racing, lets have a look.

LFM is an independent competitive multiplayer platform for sim racing. They feature a range of series and leagues, allowing sim racers to compete against similarly skilled sim racers. Good results will improve your ELO which is a ranking factor, and allow you to move up the standings across a 12 week season.


Setting up Assetto Corsa ready for LFM

Before you start competing against other sim racers, you’ll need to set up Assetto Corsa so it is ready for Low Fuel Motorsports. This includes installing a variety of mods to ensure you can join sessions. These mods are used to expand the content providing newer cars and tracks to race on than those released originally.

Some of the key mods you will need to install for every Assetto Corsa series on LFM include;

  • Content Manager: This mod includes a much more modern user interface, making joining races much easier, and also serves as a platform to easily install and configure other mods. Read how to install Content Manager on Assetto Corsa.
  • SOL: SOL is a mod which dramatically improves the weather system and visuals in Assetto Corsa. Find out how to install SOL in a few easy steps.
  • Real penalty: The real penalty mod is used in all LFM Assetto Corsa series and provides much more realistic penalties along with other features such as driver swapping and various race control features.
  • LFM livery script: The LFM livery script mod has been designed by the LFM team and enables custom liveries to be visible in replays.

There will also always be additional mods required such as car packs and track packs, and all of these will be listed on the series page.

Do I need to download Assetto Corsa mods to use LFM?

Assetto Corsa is one of the most modded sim racing titles around, thanks to its open platform and huge community. For this reason, most LFM series use mods, which you will have to download to compete in various series.

For each Assetto Corsa series on LFM, you will find a list of mods used right below the series you choose. This list includes direct links to download the relevant mods. And this makes it very easy to download the right mods for the series you are competing in.

How to join an Assetto Corsa race in LFM

With all of the required mods installed to Assetto Corsa, the time has come to jump into a session and start racing. This process is very simple, with you simply finding the series you wish to race in. Then follow the on-screen guide on how to join.

Create or log into your LFM account

Every sim racers on LFM will need an account, which is free to create. If you don’t already have an LFM account, create one for free and link your Discord account.

Find a series to compete in

The next step is to find a series you wish to compete in. Ensure you have the Assetto Corsa logo selected on the seasons page to view all series. You’ll need to find a series that is within your license level. This means some series will be inaccessible until you improve your LFM license.

Download all required mods

With your series selected, download all of the required mods, as I mentioned above. There is always a list of required mods under each series.

Find a session to join

Underneath the mod list you’ll find a list of upcoming sessions for the selected series. Find one of these sessions that fits with your schedule and click the sign up button.

Sign up to a session

After clicking the sign up button, you’ll need to agree to a few code of conduct agreements in order to join and compete. These are mandatory, and I’d recommend reading them properly to ensure you can meet all requirements. You will also be asked to choose your car before finally selecting “Sign me up!”.

Competing in an Assetto Corsa series

With all of the requirements for a series met, you can finally join a session and start competing. You can then jump into Assetto Corsa’s Content Manager, and join the LFM server for that race. You will be able to find all of the server details on the race information screen, along with the password to join the server and the server name. You can use Content Manager to join the server, ensuring you join at the correct time.

How to get an LFM license?

To earn an LFM license, you’ll need to complete the license test. This checks that you are a safe enough, and fast enough driver to compete in a Low Fuel Motorsport league. To earn your license, you can jump into an LFM license server, and you’ll need to complete 7 laps, with an average lap time no slower than 107% of the lap record. This does sound tricky. However, most sim racers will be able to hit this lap time and qualify for a license. The key is consistency,

How do you gain ELO in LFM?

ELO is the term given to your ranking or rating within Low Fuel Motorsport. It is similar to how iRating works in iRacing, with better results and race finishes improving your ELO. To improve your ELO, you should aim to regularly finish towards the front of the grid, with poor results negatively affecting your ELO.

How long is an LFM season?

Each LFM season lasts 12 weeks. Each week features a different track, with races scheduled every hour ensuring it is always easy to jump into and compete in a weekly seasonal race.
