Throughout the past year, a range of new sim racing titles, including RennSport and Le Mans Ultimate, have been released into full or early access. However, Assetto Corsa Competizione remains one of the most popular sim racing titles.

ACC is heavily orientated towards simulation racing and, therefore, really rewards those who choose to race with a racing wheel and pedal set. You can race Assetto Corsa Competizione with a controller, and you can have a lot of fun this way. Introducing a racing wheel to the gameplay will add to the immersion and give you greater levels of control, in some cases making you faster.

In this guide, I’ll show you how to correctly set up any racing wheel in Assetto Corsa Competizione. My step-by-step guide will work on the PC, Xbox, and Playstation versions of ACC, and the process will be generally the same with whichever racing wheel you are using, whether that is a Fanatec, MOZA, Logitech, or other racing wheel.

A step-by-step guide on how to set up a racing wheel in ACC on any console

I’m not going to waste any time and jump into showing you a quick step-by-step how-to guide for setting up a racing wheel in Assetto Corsa Competizione. I will be using my Fanatec ClubSport DD+ in this guide as it is compatible with PC and consoles. But I will highlight different wheels if the setup process is different.

The first real step is to ensure you have a racing wheel that is compatible with ACC on the console or platform you are using. You can manually configure almost any wheel to work in ACC, however, if racing on an Xbox or PlayStation, make sure you check your wheel is compatible with your console.

Read our list of all Assetto Corsa Competizione compatible racing wheels to ensure you have a wheel that will work.

  1. Connect your racing wheel to your PC, Xbox or PS5, and power it on

Ensure your racing wheel and pedals are mounted to a desk, table or a sim racing cockpit. If you have a powerful direct drive wheel, ensure it is hard-mounted and secure.

Then, connect your power cable to your racing wheel, the pedals and any other peripherals to your wheel base, and the USB from your racing wheel to your console or PC. If you are using a mixture of different branded gear, ensure the pedals and racing wheel are both connected to your PC via USB. With everything connected, power on your racing wheel.

  2. PC Only – Update firmware

If you are racing on an Xbox or PlayStation, you can skip this step.

For your racing wheel and pedals to be recognised and work correctly on a PC, you will need to download the correct software and update the firmware. For Logitech, this is G Hub, MOZA uses Pit House, and Fanatec uses the Fanatec Control Panel.

All brands have the software available to download for free from their websites, so visit the support website for your racing wheel to find the software.

With the correct software installed, open it up, and it should prompt you to update your racing wheel’s firmware. Almost all brands do this to make updating firmware easier. If you don’t get a prompt, head into the downloaded app, and find the update firmware or check firmware button. Let the firmware process complete before moving on.

  3. Change the force feedback settings in your software

When racing on PC, you have two areas where you can adjust your force feedback: the software and the Assetto Corsa Competizione settings. Some racing wheels, such as those from Fanatec, let you adjust the software settings using the screen on the steering wheel.

I recommend using our recommended ACC wheel settings as a baseline and then adjusting them to your own preference. Use our guide on finding the correct steering lock in ACC to set the steering lock of your wheel. Then, tune the force feedback strength and settings up or down via your wheel’s screen or via the software on your PC.

  4. Start Assetto Corsa Competizione and adjust your in-game settings

With your racing wheel configured and updated, it is time to start Assetto Corsa Competizione and adjust the in-game force feedback settings. These can be accessed from the main menu or pause screen and are in the controls tab.

There aren’t many options to adjust in ACC. Read our guide on the best force feedback settings for Assetto Corsa Competizione to find our recommendations for a range of different racing wheels. It is important to once again set the correct steering lock for the car you will be racing, ensuring it is the same as the steering lock you set on your wheel or in the software.

  5. Adjust control bindings in ACC

The last thing that I’d recommend doing is adjusting the control bindings or mapping to set what each input on your racing wheel controls in game. This can be done from the same controls menu and is found on the right of the screen.

To change controller bindings, scroll down this list until you find something you wish to change. Then press the select button and the new input you wish to use. I’d recommend binding traction control and ABS to your rotary encoders for quick adjustments mid-race.

Save your controller settings once you are complete as a preset, so you can quickly load them in the future.

Force feedback settings in ACC

Assetto Corsa Competizione offers a range of force feedback settings that can be adjusted, and these are the same regardless of platform. Many of these settings should be left at or close to zero and controlled directly by your racing wheel. However, some settings have a big impact on how your racing wheel behaves.

Below are links to our recommended wheel settings for a range of popular racing wheels, and below is an explanation of each force feedback setting in ACC controls.

FAQs

Why is my wheel not working on Assetto Corsa Competizione?

If your wheel isn’t recognised or isn’t working in ACC, I recommend checking your firmware. You can do this with your wheel connected to a PC via your wheel’s software. Ensure the most recent firmware is installed, and try loading Assetto Corsa Competizione once again. You can also do this step if you are racing on an Xbox or PS5.

How do you start the car engine with a racing wheel in Assetto Corsa Competizione?

There are two buttons to start the car in Assetto Corsa Competizione. First, you need to press the ignition, which is set to the square or x button on a Logitech G923 by default. Then, start the engine with the X or A button. These inputs can be changed and mapped to any other input on your racing wheel.

Is a Logitech G923 racing wheel good for Assetto Corsa Competizione?

The Logitech G923 or G29 is a fantastic wheel to start racing in ACC. It is a relatively low-cost racing wheel that is compatible with Xbox, Playstation and PC, and it offers a great foundation for racing ACC with a racing wheel.
