SOL is one of the most popular Assetto Corsa mods, even over a decade since AC first launched. Working alongside the Custom Shaders Patch and Content Manager, SOL is a complete weather simulation mod for Assetto Corsa.
Using SOL gives you access to completely customisable weather. This includes a complete weather system overhaul for Assetto Corsa. You can create weather patterns and schedules and completely custom weather scenarios.
In this how-to guide, I’ll show you how to install SOL in Assetto Corsa, where and how to download SOL, and some recommended settings to make AC look as realistic as possible.
If you are using the Content Manager plugin and Custom Shaders Patch which can be installed directly from Content Manager, you should really look to install SOL.
SOL is completely free to download and can be installed very easily using Content Manager. It will transform the weather system, and even allow for realistic rain using the additional RainFX mod. SOL is one of the must-have mods for Assetto Corsa, as it adds a lot of realism to the game.
Below are a couple of screenshots from inside Assetto Corsa with rain enabled using the SOL weather mod.
SOL is a weather overhaul mod that allows for custom weather settings and options. You can create weather patterns and dynamic weather throughout races and integrate realistic rain into Assetto Corsa.
There are some requirements for installing SOL and using the custom weather effects. You’ll need a couple of other Assetto Corsa mods installed before attempting to install SOL. Ensure you have the following mods installed.
Learn how to install Content Manager for Assetto Corsa in our step-by-step installation guide.
To download SOL for Assetto Corsa, you will need an Overtake.gg account (Formerly RaceDepartment), which allows you to download mods. You’ll find the SOL mod on this page.
To download the latest version of SOL, simply click the download button in the top right of the screen.
To install SOL, you do require CSP (Custom Shaders Patch). This can be installed easily using Content Manager, but ensure you have CSP version 1.76 or newer, otherwise SOL cannot be used properly.
You can check which version of Custom Shaders Patch you are using from Content Manager. Go into the settings menu, and select Custom Shaders Patch from the top left. Then choose “About & Updates” in the side menu to see which version of CSP you are using. You can change your version using the “available versions” menu on the right of the screen.
Older versions of the SOL mod, including 2.2.8, 2.2.7, and earlier, can be downloaded from the download history page. This can be useful if you are using an older version of Content Manager.
SOL version 2.2.9 was introduced to work alongside the updated version of Content Manager. If you have the latest version of CM, you should download the latest version of SOL.
Before installing SOL, read our tutorial on how to install Custom Shaders Patch into Assetto Corsa. CSP is required for SOL to work, so ensure you have it installed, as well as installing Content Manager which allows everything to fit into place.
This completes the installation of SOL, but there are some settings I’d recommend changing within Content Manager to ensure it is set up correctly.
With the SOL mod successfully installed using the tutorial above, you can open up Content Manager and change a few settings. All SOL settings can be found in the “Weather FX” menu from the Content Manager settings.
For the best SOL experience, ensure you have the following SOL settings configured in Content Manager;
With SOL installed and the best settings configured, you can start to use it during races and sessions. To change the weather in SOL, head over to the “Drive” menu in Content Manager.
You can use SOL by dropping down the weather box and choosing any of the SOL 2.5 Planner options. You do need to ensure that in this dropdown, you select SOL 2.5 from the controllers submenu.
With that selected you have a few ways to configure your weather.
You can choose to implement live dynamic weather by selecting the “Live” option. This option will automatically set the weather in Assetto Corsa based on the current weather conditions at the track you are racing on.
If you are racing at Silverstone, and it is currently overcast in real life. This will be represented in your race at Silverstone, and this will update at any point during the day to reflect the real-world weather.
If you want control over the weather, you have three options to configure from the SOL 2.5 Planner submenu. The options you can change are;
The settings above allow us to configure the weather settings that will be used at the start of your new session. You can also further configure SOL while in Assetto Corsa. This lets you set a complete weather schedule or adjust the weather settings to find the perfect conditions for your race.
To adjust SOL settings while in Assetto Corsa, follow our tutorial below;
If you haven’t read our guide on the best mods for Assetto Corsa, head over and read it now to discover which mods should be the first ones you install.

Unlike many Assetto Corsa mods, you cannot install SOL by dragging it into the Content Manager dashboard. Instead, you need to manually install SOL.
To be able to change the SOL weather effects in game, you should enable Python apps from the Assetto Corsa settings in Content Manager. Then tick all of the SOL apps to be able to access them while the game is loaded.
Installing SOL correctly and enabling it using our recommended settings will enable physical rain as well as spray from other cars, water droplets on your windscreen, puddles and more physical rain effects.
