One of the reasons why the original Assetto Corsa is still arguably the most popular sim racing title, even ten years after it first launched, is due to Assetto Corsa mods and the modding community. The original AC is incredibly easy to mod, allowing PC sim racers to access a whole host of additional content including new cars, new tracks, complete graphics and physics overhauls.
Assetto Corsa Evo, the successor to the original AC, is due to release later this year, in 2024. Will this new Assetto Corsa Evo be mod-compatible, and will it have as much of a fan base as the original game? I’ll find out in this guide.
The developers of Assetto Corsa Evo, Kunos Simulazioni, are creating the new Assetto Corsa Evo title using their own game engine, much like they did with the original Assetto Corsa. This gives the developers complete control over how open they make the new title in terms of mods.
In an interview earlier in 2024, the executive manager of Kunos, Marco Massarutto, stated that the developers are strongly considering mod support with Assetto Corsa Evo. He said, “We may create a light editor like we did for the original Assetto Corsa so that people can contribute to content creation. Modding is definitely one of the open topics on the table, but no decision has been made yet.“
Marco went on to add, “The vision behind modding is that it should let people express their talent and create their own content.” “This time, we want to see how we can support the good modders in a way that can create a synergy between the studio and the most talented creators.“
These statements lead us to believe that mods have been a strong consideration in the development of Assetto Corsa Evo. While we don’t have official confirmation or know how mods will be implemented, Marco’s hints strongly suggest that mods will be possible in one way or another in AC Evo.
We have seen in the past that games that allow modding have sought to monetise this functionality. We are looking at you, Bethesda, with the introduction of the Creation Club.
Currently, the original Assetto Corsa is incredibly open to any form of mod, and the game developers have not monetised these mods in any way. The statements that the executive manager, Marco, made above do hint towards the implementation of some form of official mods or curated mods.
This could be implemented via an official modding platform that serves as an easy way for sim racers to find and download free mods. Or, it could hint at something more similar to Bethesda’s Creation Club, with the introduction of premium mods.
Currently, we do not know which direction Assetto Corsa Evo will take regarding mods and/or a mod storefront. All we know is that we don’t have long to wait now that we are closing in on its release.

Currently, we don’t have an official statement fully confirming mod support for Assetto Corsa Evo. We do have statements from the developers that say they are considering how/if mods will be supported.
It is almost a certainty that the current iteration of Content Manager will not be directly compatible with the new Assetto Corsa Evo. We may see an updated version of Content Manager for Assetto Corsa Evo, or it may have similar functionality built into the game at launch.
